Where Are Our Martin Luther Kings? Where Are Our Malcolm X's? Where is the New Generation of Civic Leaders?

Chris Tidwell
Where have all our leaders gone? Where are the influences and the men and woman that should lead us like those in the past? Where are the activists that will listen and help, delegate and act? Where have they all gone? Well the answer is that our society in the modern era is too selfish and self absorbed to produce such men and women.

Political movements in this day and age spark heated controversy, like they have in the past, the difference is that one side will not listen to the other. The left versus the right, logic versus illogic, republican versus democrat and liberal versus conservative, with no one leader set in the middle to teach, and help us come together. Our nation is in an era of civil divide and we need a strong man or woman to pull us together, someone to end this culture war we have brewing within our own homes.

The all mighty dollar and individual purpose and prospect has overtaken our country. No one is willing to stand and fight for their cause in a sane manner, no one is willing to risk it all, and take a chance in making our world a better place. Every last person is too consumed with greed and fear to make a movement, to selfish to stand up for what is right rather then what is easy.

Where are the Rosa parks and Martin Luther Kings that the world needs now? Martin Luther King was a man who had everything. He lead his race out of dark ages and into a new era of peace. His efforts were legendary and all for his people. Dr. King had a PHD by time he was 28, a Noble Peace Prize in his 30's and had the opportunity to lead Universities and become a UN Ambassador. He rejected this wealth and fame, and when he was assassinated in Tennessee do you know what he was doing? He was helping Garbage men get the equal rights they deserved, Dr. King was helping the common man achieve a goal, and he paid the ultimate price.

Now what does that tell you about character? Rosa Parks went to jail for her actions, and never regretted it once. These people, these leaders were willing to sacrifice it all, to give it all they had for a cause they deemed worthy and above the needs and wants of any one person. They, the leaders of the past were selfless enough to put their lives on the line in order to push forward with a cause that would help their people, and overall help our world.

There are activists today, and they are more then willing to give opinions, but they go about it all wrong. Members of organizations are so dead set against something that they will take their arguments to the extreme. The problem is that most organizations are against something rather then for something. We are against Guns, we are against the war, we are against Christians, we are against gay marriage, we are against this or that, why not be for a cause? We are for the better treatment of our men and woman overseas, we are for peace and a viable solution to problems, we are for the betterment of our children's lives. Those sound more like causes I would be willing to support and listen too.

The self centered values that have been instilled in the past few generations are causing a sever lack of leadership in our lives. There may never be another leader who is bound and determined to get something accomplished ever again, in a peaceful manner and who is willing to listen to reason and the points of views of others. The age of real leaders, ordinary people who rise to a specific call and answer the cries of their people seems to be over, but we will never forget those who gave so much in the past.
