Where to Pick Up Federal and State Tax Forms in Greenville, South Carolina

Arene Penelope
Tax time is around the corner and many people are searching for places to go to pick up tax documents. From the past years, it is common knowledge that the IRS will mail state and federal tax booklets to employees who have completed a 1099 form when they first applied with an employer. Yet, each of us has different circumstances where we may need to use a different form from the previous year, need extra forms, or may want to fill out forms sooner than when it is mailed to us. In these cases, I have outlined several places in Greenville, South Carolina to get hold of the most common state and federal income tax forms.

IRS Office

Beginning in January, tax filers will have access to the most requested IRS tax forms and instructions (1040A - U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, W-9 - Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification, and SS-4 - Application for Employer Identification) at the local IRS Office. In Greenville, the office address is IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center, 440 Roper Mountain Rd, Greenville, SC 29615. This office is open on Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. In addition to tax forms, the IRS office also offers assistance for completing tax forms with no appointment necessary. For general questions, they prefer that tax filers first call them or go to their website, www.irs.gov, to review the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. This website also provides links to all federal tax forms.

City and County Government Offices

Another government office to visit for state tax forms is the Greenville Taxpayer Service Center for the South Carolina Department of Revenue located at 211 Century Drive, Suite 210-B, Greenville, SC 29607. In January, this office will provide forms and instructions that include SC1040, SC1040A and other miscellaneous tax forms such as for corporation, license, property, and use tax returns. The official website for this business is www.sctax.org that contains a link to print any state tax form along with an FAQ Section.

Libraries

Any of the main and local libraries will supply individual copies of state and federal income tax return forms. These include the state forms SC1040 (long form) and SC1040A (short form) as well as federal forms IRS 1040EZ and IRS 1040A. The Hughes Main Library, located in the "downtown" area, is open on Monday through Friday from 9 am to 9 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm, and Sunday from 2 pm to 6 pm. The various branches, which include Mauldin, Berea, Pelham Road, Augusta Road, and Anderson Road, have the same operating schedule as the main branch except that they are closed on Sundays.

Post Offices

All of the post office branches will also carry the most requested state and federal income tax forms and instructions. The main post office in Greenville is located on Washington Street. Some of the other branches are located on Laurens Road, N. Main Street of Mauldin, Augusta Road, and Conestee Avenue. The good news about these post office locations is that the doors are open 24 hours to pickup tax forms.

Common Businesses

Other businesses that the IRS suggests for picking up the most requested tax forms include credit unions (such as the Greenville Federal Credit Union or the State Credit Union), grocery stores, copy centers such as The UPS Store or the FedEx Store and office supply stores such as Staples, Office Depot, and Office Max. All of these businesses collect tax forms that may be reproduced by photocopying or printing from a CD.

Remember to pick up your income tax forms at these locations when January arrives and to file them before mid April. An abundance of information concerning state and federal taxes, local taxpayer service center addresses and phone numbers, and links to any of the tax forms are available at www.irs.gov and www.sc.tax.org.
