Where to Pick Pumpkins in Raleigh, North Carolin

Vollmer Pumpkin Farm Offers Halloween Fun and a Great Backdrop for Photographs

Carrie Matilda
When it comes to pumpkin picking and pumpkin patches, it's hard to beat Vollmer's Farm, located just a short drive north from Raleigh, North Carolina.

Although the $15. admission is a bit pricey, the variety of fun things to do and the colorful and scenic backgrounds for picture taking make it well worth the price.

Now a grandfather, Farmer John was born on the family farm and worked growing tobacco, milking cows and gathering eggs, and manufacturing fertilizer like many other North Carolina farm boys. In the late 1980s the farm transitioned into pumpkin farming, strawberry farming, and organics.

Some of our favorite family outings with the children have taken place in this charming rural setting.

Location: 677 Hwy 98E, Bunn, NC 27508 (919-496-3076)

Hayrides to the Back Forty Acres behind authentic farm tractors.

  • A great family place to spend a day, and just a short drive from Raleigh
  • Bright autumn colors, hay, sunflowers, and bright pumpkins provide ample photo opportunities
  • School groups, birthday parties, and special events are welcome
Families like ours have brought their children to Vollmer's at least once each year since they were old enough to wrap their arms around a little orange pumpkin -- or fall asleep against a giant one.

Thanks, Jedley. I'm just getting started here and really appreciate your comment!
The pumpkin farm here has the best strawberries around during that season, too.

I live in Southern California and we don't have too many pumpkin patches, but this is great, local information! Good job! I'm sure many will find it helpful!
