Where to Plant Roses

Roses can be highly adaptable to many environments. However, there are optimum conditions for them to grow and bloom the best. You need to be sure you check out the soil, sunlight, water, humidity and air circulation when you are deciding where to plant your roses. Here are some tips to help you know where to plant your roses.

Slightly acidic soil is what your roses need. Be sure there is plenty of organic matter and nutrients. If they are not already in the soil, you will need to add them. The soil should be moist, but also, well drained. This soil needs to be as good as your garden soil. Be sure you correct any problems before you purchase your rose bushes to plant.

Your roses will need about 6 hours of sunlight each day. This will need to be direct sunlight. This will help your roses have an abundance of blooms and grow well, too. It is better if the sunlight hits your roses in the morning. Sunlight at this time of the day helps the dew dry more quickly. Less moisture will help reduce the chance of disease.

Roses will grow better if they get a regular supply of moisture, just like other garden plants. If it does not rain enough in your area, they will need to get about an inch of water per week. This is especially true if your roses bloom more than once a season. Be sure to get enough water for your roses to help them flourish.

The roses will also be affected by the moisture in the air. When there is too much moisture on the roses fungal diseases can spread quicker. If you live in a region that is naturally humid, it is in your best interest to only purchase disease resistant roses. If you choose a variety that is not resistant to diseases, you may find yourself constantly looking for remedies for these diseases. It will also cause your roses to suffer and not perform as well.

If there are extremes in temperature of either cold or hot, this will affect your roses, too. The heat will keep them from blooming as much, or possibly any. The cold could kill your roses if it is extreme enough. Check with your nursery or garden store to be sure you get plants that will grow well in your temperature zone.

When choosing the location for your roses, be sure it is easy to get to. If you can see them regularly, you will be more likely to notice if something is wrong or if your roses need fertilizer or water. It may make the difference between noticing something in time to correct it and losing a rose to disease. It will make caring for your roses much easier.

No matter what variety of rose you choose, they all have the potential to be a beautiful and colorful addition to your yard. And, that potential is much more if you plant your roses in a place that is compatible with their needs. Hopefully, these tips will help you have wonderful roses growing in y our yard.
