When you talk to any young man who was a fan of Power Rangers in the early beginnings most will say that they had a big crush on the pink ranger, Kimberly Hart. Amy Jo Johnson a gymnast turned actor won the role of Kimberly, a valley girl, who apparently loved the color pink. Johnson's gymnast capabilities helped her with choreographed fights. After leaving she moved on to other projects winning the role of Julie on the popular show "Felicity" which she used to showcase her singing abilities that were also used in the VH1 movie "Sweetwater," a biography of the Nancy Nevins and the group Sweetwater who performed first at Woodstock. She has been in numerous TV movies and appeared in different roles on TV shows. She has also released several albums and her website has posted her art and performances. Now she is a mother giving birth to her first child in 2008.
Just as Kimberly was the resident "Like totally" valley girl Zack Taylor was the hip hop jamming Black Ranger. Walter Emanuel Jones always mixed hip hop dance moves with his martial arts during battles. Jones was written out of the show in the middle of the second season, but he often did voices for many villains that appeared on the show. He had different roles on television shows such as "The Parenthood" and in a few movies, but Jones' first love is what his character was known for: dancing and in 2004 Jones won the title of Mayan World Champion for salsa dancing. Unfortunately in July 2009 Jones was arrested for a DUI in Alabama. The charge was later dropped in April 2010. He currently lives in Los Angles where he teaches salsa.
The only original cast member of the Power Rangers to appear in every Mighty Morphin Power Ranger episode, David Yost portrayed Billy Cranston the Blue Ranger. Billy was a stereotypical nerd. He was often the one who could fix all the gadgets in the command center. After the show Yost appeared in small roles and even got involved in TV production. This August Yost is said to be at the Anime Festival in Orlando.
Thuy Trang portrayed Trini Kwan the yellow ranger from 1993-96. She left at the same time Emanuel Jones, and Austin St. John left the show. In 1996 Trang played the lead villain in the movie The Crow: City of Angels. Unfortunately Trang died in a car accident in 2001. There was a Buddhist ceremony for her and her Power Ranger co-stars Amy Jo Johnson and David Yost attended.
The Red Ranger was voted favorite ranger according to an Internet poll from ABC Family, Austin St. John had the honor of playing the role Jason Lee Scott the Red Ranger. The Red Ranger was always looked at like the leader of the rangers even when the Green Ranger was added. It wasn't until the Green Ranger became the White Ranger that the Red Ranger would no longer be the leader. Not too long after the arrival of the White Ranger, St. John left along with Jones and Trang. He returned as the Gold Ranger during the Zeo season and also for an episode called "Forever Red," in which the characters who played the Red Ranger came together. St. John also appeared in the Power Ranger Turbo movie. It was rumored that Austin St. John had appeared in pornography, and although he has said that he wasn't in a pornography it is still questionable. Today he resides in Sterling, VA and is still a hero as an EMT.Jason David Frank who played Tommy Oliver stayed on with the Power Rangers show the longest and changed colors more that any other ranger, being green, white, and red. His last role on the Power Rangers he was actually an advisor to young rangers and was called Dr. Oliver. For the most part he has worked hard as a Martial Artist. Oliver has made his mark as a mixed martial artist and has been undefeated as an amateur. He has been training to become a professional MMA fighter and is scheduled to fight in Houston, August 2010.
Even as the Power Rangers have changed the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will remain the most loved and remembered.
