As a teenager I made it a point to recycle in my mother's home. I couldn't stand to see her throw away the daily newspaper. So, I made boxes for our recyclable items and took them to the recycling center at our local grocery store once a week.
Now times have changed and curbside recycling has been adopted by many cities, one of them being my temporary home of Fayetteville, NC.
I was thrilled when I discovered a few months ago the city would be adopting this program and couldn't wait until I received my blue bin. Recycling is now an easy chore for the citizens in single-family homes. Recyclable-blue-bin items include: newspaper, magazines, glass bottles, aluminum, steel cans, plastic bottles, corrugated cardboard, office and residential paper.
The great thing about curbside recycling is: No sorting of items, removing labels or caps, and you don't even have to crush your cans!
The only unfortunate part of curbside recycling is that it's only offered to those in single-family homes within the city limits. Businesses and those in multi-family housing (apartments or duplexes) or outside the city limits will have to recycle the old fashion way.
The city of Fayetteville will still continue to operate it's seven recycling drop-off centers for non-curbside recyclers, these centers are located at:
Ann Street Landfill at 698 Ann Street
Cliffdale Location at 7581 Lowell Harris Road
College Lakes Park at 701 Tranquil Drive
Fire Station No. 9 at 5091 Santa Fe Drive
Fire Station No. 17 at 6701 Bailey Lake Road
Honeycutt Park at 2605 Fort Bragg Road
Massey Hill Recreation Center at 1612 Camden Road
Maps of the recycling centers are availabe at the city of Fayetteville's website.
These drop off centers accept plastic containers, newspapers and magazines.
