Where to Recycle Your Old Appliances After Your Upgrade to Energy Star Ones

If you just purchased an Energy Star appliance and you need to recycle your old appliance, you can ask the company delivering your new Energy Star appliance if they are willing to pick up the old appliance. Sometimes, they will just take your old appliance off your hands, but you want to make sure they are disposing it properly. Some retailers and manufacturers offer a rebate for taking your old appliance when your purchase a new Energy Star appliance. If they will not take your old appliance, there are many places where you can recycle your old appliances after you upgrade to an Energy Star appliance.

First, contact your city or county government to find out if they provide any type of appliance recycling program. They may have many suggestions of who you can contact locally to recycle your old appliance after purchasing your Energy Star appliance. You can also check your phone book or on the Internet for a local waster hauler, they may take your appliance for you. Some of these may charge a fee.

If you are thinking of taking your old appliance to a recycling center to recycle the steel, the most important things to remember is to be aware that some refrigerators and freezers contain refrigerants, oils,and other compounds that must be removed and recovered by federal law that should be complied with. You can find all the rules on the United States Environment Protection Agency website.

If your old appliance is working, some electric utility companies offer a Bounty Program if they the appliance meets certain requirements. Call your local electric company and ask if they offer a bounty program or if they know anyone that does. The Bounty Program will actually give you a rebate for your old appliance.

Another way to recycle your old appliance after purchasing an Energy Star appliance is by calling your local charities to see if they are in need of a used appliance. You may call just reach someone that is in desperate need of what you are trying to give away.

Craigslist is another place where you can recycle your old appliance after purchasing an Energy Star appliance. Many people are financially hurting and are in need of certain appliances, and will be searching on Craigslist and may find your old appliance you have listed.

Gifting Networks are another way to recycle your old appliances after purchasing an Energy Star appliance, such The Freecycle Network. The Freecycle Network is a place where you can post appliances and local people can grab them if they need them. This is a great way of giving in your community.
