Where Can You Save Money on Existing Expenses?

Everyone wants to save money and prepare for the future and everyone should. However, most people find saving difficult if not downright impossible. Although it's really not.

When we think "savings" most think they need huge sums of money put aside for emergencies.

Yes, you do need an emergency fund but no one expects a person to start out with a huge sum of money to put in savings or even start a savings account.

The bible teaches us to "despise not small beginnings."

This hold true in saving on existing expenses as well as planning and preparing for your future.

Before you can find how to save on fixed expenses and spending, you have to identify these two aspects of your finances. You can find examples of both in my article, Know Your Fixed Expenses and Spending.

Here are a few examples of how you can save on fixed expenses:

1). House Note - Refinance at a lower interest rate; Debt Consolidation Loans offer huge savings especially if you get a good interest rate.

2). Utilities - Does the company who furnishes your electricity, gas, water, etc. offer "average" billing? Although this may not save you tons of money in the long run, it does make it easier to set up and maintain a budget which in turn, frees up money for savings.

3). Bundling - Phone, Cable or Satellite, Internet, & Cell Phone companies often offer bundles or special packages that incorporate all of these services into one fee usually at a lower price than the individual services.

4). Groceries - buy in bulk, clip coupons, shop sales.

Spending on the other hand may be a little harder to find ways to cut - but here are a few ideas:

1). Pack a lunch instead of dining out

2). Cook your evening meals instead of fast food or take home

3). Plan your menus and make a grocery list - you are less likely to splurge on unnecessary items

4). Shop for items such as pots, pans, dishes, gifts, clothing, etc. at thrift stores, bargain bins, clearance racks and yard sales.

5). Have hundreds of channels with your cable or satellite package? Reduce to a smaller package - most people watch the same shows regularly anyway so why pay for channels you're not going to need?

These ideas barely scratch the surface of ways you can save on existing expenses but with a little wisdom and research the task is not impossible.
