Where to Shop for Charm Necklaces

From Simple Single-charms to Multi-charmed Necklaces, Anything Goes

Charms never go out of style and it's the one accessory that usually can tell a story or suggest a theme based on the types of charms used. Charm necklaces usually evoke something antique or Old Worldly, but charm necklaces today can vary from the traditional style, to the more outlandish and kitschy.

So, which one is right for you? Here are some ideas of retailers who carry this type of accessory in every possible style at a variety of price points.

Feeling Lucky: The numbers one through seven each reserve a spot on a circle or locket charm on Anthropologie's "Lucky Numbers" choker. The color of the charms vary and it has that old world look like the charms were found in an attic or antique shop and then turned into charms for a necklace.

Music Lover: At quick glance, this gold necklace looks like it has two circular charms hanging from it. Upon closer inspection, however, they're actually tiny headphones from Stockholm designer Anna Tascha Larsson. The necklaces are handmade cast in silver or goldplated silver. The charm itself is 5 inches and is attached to a 27-inch chain.

Personalized: Complete the mix of skeleton keys and heart lock charms with your initial. You can order any letter in the alphabet to add to your charm necklace, which comes on an 18-inch chain. The colors are a mix of antiqued brass and silver.

Unexpected: A 30-inch antiqued chain is finished off with a real harmonica charm and vintage looking coin making for an unexpected accessory to just about any outfit. If you like surprising others with your style, this necklace is for you.

Value: Forever 21 has got to be the best place to find deals on accessories and clothing (aside from running down to the garment district in LA). Their double flower necklace has two antique looking flower pendants each sitting on their own chain. The floral design is reminiscent of a needlepoint project and would dress up any denim and T-shirt outfit. Move fast if you want it - you know how fast they change their inventory.

Price: $4.80

Traditional: Charmed & Dangerous' photo locket necklace has the traditional locket charm along with a flower and initial charm (you pick what letter your want). This is a very simple design good if you're looking for something that's not too flashy and won't get in the way (if you're very active). The necklace comes in gold filled or silver. Note: also check out the rest of their web site. As the name implies, everything they sell involves charms.

Price: $40

Earthy: Charlotte Russe's leaf charm necklace includes very delicate leaf and wooden bead charms. A tassel made of fine chains dangles in the center of a 21-inch chain. You can't beat the price either.

Price: $6.99

Where: Charlotte-Russe.com

Dark Side: If you like darker decor hanging around your neck, try this skull, heart and roses charm necklace. The charms are fixed all along the double-chained necklace (as opposed to dangling all in the center). Charms come in silver and black. What's cool is that the chain is a braided vinyl (in black).
