One of the most well known places in Dallas is Neiman Marcus. Neiman's is famous for their annual Christmas catalogue. Most people who don't live or work close to a Neiman Marcus probably have the mistaken idea that only the very rich can shop there. While it is true that this is a store that is on the expensive end of the scale, there are options for we who are less financially flush. I spoke with the department manager at the downtown store that is located at 1618 Main Street in the 75201 zip code. She told me that their ornaments actually start at around $12.00. While their web site does not list items that are necessarily in the retail stores, you can get an idea of some of the prices available. I was able to find several Christmas table decorations in the $30-$50 range and many in the $50-$100 range. If you need a special gift and want to find something that is a little out of the ordinary, don't discount this store because you think it will be too expensive. The hours of the downtown store are Monday-Wednesday 10am-6pm, Thursday 10am-8pm, Friday and Saturday 10am-6pm. There are at least seven other locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area.
Another great place to shop for Christmas decorations in Dallas is the Nowlin Trading Company, which has been in business since 1991. It is located at 11041 Ables Lane in the 75229 zip code area. They are open from Tuesday-Saturday from 9am-5pm. They specialize in ornaments, trims, bags, wrapping paper, ribbon and festive decorations. They also sell trees and decorations in a wide variety of Christmas themes. Most of their merchandise is priced less than wholesale, but they only accept cash or checks.
Noel Christmas Store is known as the largest year round Christmas store in Dallas. It is located at 12835 Preston Road in the 75230 zip code. It has been in business since 1986. Noel Christmas Store has a fabulous collection of Christmas décor. The prices run from the extremely reasonable to the expensive. One of their most delightful collections is the Jim Shore Heartwood Creek Animals line. The dog and cat ornaments are priced from about $9.00 to around $16.00. Another one of their great ornament collections is the Old World Music, Sports, and Hobbies line. They are very reasonably priced from $3.99 to $15.00. Noel Christmas store is now open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm.
Another popular Christmas décor store in Dallas is Holidaze and Gifts. It is located at 3400 Preston Road, Ste.200 in the 75093 zip code. This is in the Plano, TX area, which is in the Dallas suburbs. This store has many beautiful lines of collectibles and specializes in ornaments, figurines, villages, and nativities. They also have trees and all of the other holiday decorations. Their prices vary from the Old World collection of ornaments at a very reasonable $2.99 to the expensive ones that are more than $100 an ornament. They carry an extensive line of university and NFL sports ornaments.
One of the best-known and most cost effective places to buy Christmas decorations in the Dallas area is the Ikea store located at 7171 Drive in the 75034 zip code. This is in the town of Frisco, which is another area of the Dallas metroplex. The Ikea store is a huge warehouse store specializing in furniture and all household furnishings and decorations. It is based in Sweden and has established many locations in the USA. The store always has a large selection of Christmas decorations that cannot be beat for the price. If you enjoy shopping and have never been to an Ikea store, it is a shop 'til you drop experience that you could enjoy all day. The hours at the Frisco store are Monday-Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday 10am-7pm. They also have a restaurant in the store and a supervised children's playroom. Children must be 37" to 54" and potty trained and can only be left an hour. Credit cards and Debit cards are accepted at the store, but checks are not accepted.
All of the hours listed above will probably be extended when the Christmas shopping season begins in earnest. Even if you are not in the buying frame of mind, the Holiday Decorations at these stores are so beautiful, it is just as enjoyable to "window shop". Either way, Happy Shopping!
*Ikea Christmas decorations start on page 56 of the current catalogue on the web site.
