Where to Shop for Holiday Decorations in Huntsville, AL

Discounts and Bargains for the Thrifty Shopper

Kat Sanchez
Before you head to expensive department stores searching for wreaths, tree trimmings, and light-up Santas, check out these great discount outlets for holiday bargains around the Huntsville, AL area:

Trees and Trends: This home decor store offers a wide selection of Christmas decorations as well as artificial trees, all at a low price. They carry expensive-looking ornaments that you won't find at Wal-mart, but which are priced reasonably between one and six dollars. Trees and Trends also regularly has department-wide sales, and their Christmas decor is 40 to 50 percent off in October and November.
Best Find: Funky reindeer lamp, retailing at $75, bought for $15

Hobby Lobby: For the not so "crafty" among us, Hobby Lobby has a great selection of pre-made Christmas tree ornaments and table decorations, as well as Thanksgiving and Fall themed items. Though not as fancy as Trees and Trends, Hobby Lobby carries cute, quirky, and humorous ornaments, such as chubby little Santas in baseball uniforms. The more creatively inclined can buy materials to make their own holiday decorations.
Best Find: Wooden Nativity set, $10.

Mike's Merchandise: Mike's discount outlet offers a wide selection of everything (including the kitchen sink): clothes, books, tools, building supplies, bedding, toiletries, and, around the holidays, Christmas decorations. Check back often for new merchandise, as you never know what new items you'll find at Mike's on any given week. Their prices on everything, not just holiday decor, are very, very good. Best non-holiday purchase? Victoria Secret London jeans, twelve dollars. Shop here for outdoor lights and table decorations, as well as for gifts.
Best Find: Candle set, $2.

Dollar Tree: Why pay five or ten dollars for a roll of wrapping paper when you buy one for a buck at Dollar Tree? If you are on a budget, Dollar Tree is the store to shop for small ornaments and decorations, as well as ribbons, bows, and wrapping paper. They also have a small assortment of Fall and Thanksgiving items, and is a great place to pick up napkins, plates, and disposable silverware for your holiday gatherings.
Best Find: Thanksgiving napkins, $1

Ross, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls: Better known for discount clothing than holiday decor, these stores do stock a nice variety of home decorating items, similar to those found in department stores but at reduced prices. Throughout the year they offer pillows, art, table settings, and cookware, and around the holidays some Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Hanukkah themed items. Look for one-of-a-kind items you won't see anywhere else, but be prepared to dig through crowded shelves to find something that catches your eye.
Best Find: "Noel" centerpiece, $15

Tuesday Morning: Sometimes the merchandise here is a bit overpriced, but you can still find good deals on holiday decorations. They have a nice selection of holiday pillows, as well as blankets and throws. Great for gifts ideas as well.
Best Find: Red and White snowflake decorative pillow, $12
