There are few things more fun than a jaunt through a haunted house or a haunted hayride during late September and October. The air is cool and crisp, the harvest moon brightens the night just enough to catch the ghouls and demons out of the corner of your eye.

So where can you go to catch some of these creepy festivities this year? I've researched them and they are listed below.

Nightmare Manor

Nightmare Manor is located inside in Southtown Plaza, Henrietta, NY. They are open for scaring you Thursdays through Sundays throughout October. Tickets cost $13 at the door, $12 in advance, and if you want to a line jumper, $18.

Nightmare Manor is offering two attractions, Dark Abyss and Dr. Limon's Manor. They have a concession stand available to purchase food and drinks, also. Nightmare Manor is not in partnership with any other haunted attraction. It is purely original Which, I think, is supposed to make it more scary.

Not recommended for kids under 9, Nightmare Manor was rated #1 as Rochester's Best and Scariest haunted attraction.

It takes approximately an hour to get through all of the haunted attractions, and that doesn't include time waiting in line. Closer to Halloween, of course, that line wait is going to be at a maximum.

Haunted House of Horrors

Haunted House of Horrors is located in Penfield, NY on Qualtrough Rd. This is a scary haunted house that they say young kids, pregnant women and people prone to heart conditions and seizures should not attend. In fact, if you are too scared to finish, they say, one of the actors will quickly escort you out.

They also offer a haunted hayride at this location and coupons can be printed out at their website: http://www.hauntedhouseofhorrors.com

Haunted Hayride of Greater Rochester

Located in Williamson, New York, this haunted hayride will take you on a 35 minute wagon ride through woods and farm land where more than 40 actors work very hard to scare you silly. All rides start at dusk Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and then halfway through October, Thursdays are included in that schedule.

This location also offers other Halloween attractions such as The Black Hole, a 3D haunted maze, the Screamatorium, which is basically a haunted house, and one that looks pretty scary, actually, as this is a fairly new attraction.

And if you plan to wait long, they offer a theater inside a barn area where they continually play gruesome Halloween movies for your entertainment.

Tickets for this attraction are $15 at the door, $13 bought in advance at Wegmans Supermarkets.

Fear at Frontier

Fear at Frontier is a bunch of haunted houses located at the Frontier Field. There is "Insanity," "Black Hole," " Slaughter House," and "Mummy's Curse."

Fear at Southtown is another branch of Fear at Frontier and features these haunted houses: Dr. Nightmare's Asylum, Castle of Fear, Terror of the Seas in 3D, Scream Theater.

Powers Farm Market Hayride

Located in Pittsford, NY, Powers Farm Market is a family friendly atmosphere, and their $3 haunted hayride won't scare the little ones too much. They also feature tee pees with jack o lanterns inside, petting farm and lots of home baked goods!

So no matter which you choose, or perhaps you'll choose more than one, there are plenty of places in Rochester, NY to have fun with the family this Halloween!

Caverns Deep is the newest, scariest haunted attraction in Rochester this year. It's located in Panorama Plaza in Penfield in the old Linens 'n Things building. It is most definitely a MUST SEE!
