Where to Stay in Fall River, Massachusetts

Heather Carreiro
Fall River is famous as the home to Battleship Cove and a vibrant Portuguese community. Whether you are visiting for the purposes of tourism, will be en route along the New England coast or will be visiting family, here are the closest accommodation options in and around Fall River.

Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast

Made famous during her trial for the 1892 murders of her family members, Lizzie Borden has become somewhat of a pop icon in southeast Massachusetts. Although she was acquitted, nobody else was ever found guilty of the murders. The house where the murders took place has been converted into a museum and 8-room bed and breakfast. As of 2010, room rates start at $150 per night, and rates in the rooms where the bodies were discovered cost slightly more.

Guests should note that the house is open for museum tours daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, and during that time you will be required to allow guests into your room. The house also hosts re-enactment nights where local actors perform throughout the rooms. If you plan on being out during the day and don't mind paying up for the chance to live in an allegedly haunted home, Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast would be a good choice for you. It is within walking distance of downtown Fall River.

Comfort Inn & Suites Fall River

Located in the northern part of the city, Comfort Inn & Suites has 94 rooms with free high-speed wireless Internet. For travelers less focused on character and more on modern amenities, this hotel is an easy pick over the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast. Rates include free breakfast, free local calls, free coffee and access to the hotel swimming pool.

From the hotel, it's about six miles to Battleship Cove, and there aren't any sights within walking distance. It's conveniently located near Route 24, so for travelers with a car it's an ideal location outside the main city.

Hampton Inn Westport

Just outside Fall River is Westport, Massachusetts. The Hampton Inn would be a good place to stay for those who want to see area sights. From the hotel, it's only a 20-minute drive to Horseneck Beach in Westport or the Newport mansions in Rhode Island. It's located off Interstate 195.

The hotel has 133 rooms, a pool, tennis courts, coin-operated laundry and a fitness center. Breakfast and coffee are complimentary, and pets up to 75 lbs. are allowed with a $35 non-refundable fee.

I'd rather NOT stay in one of the rooms where the bodies were found.

I was also thinking about the cost of the rooms where the bodies were found. What a gruesome discovery!

Fascinating... what does it say about people that it costs more to stay in the rooms where the bodies were discovered?
