We've all heard the whining and pleading that goes along with Spring and Summer breaks-it doesn't matter what part of the country you live in. "I'm bored, can't we do something?" Orange County, California has something for everyone's activity level and budget, here are but a few suggestions to keep the family and visiting guests happy.

With the weather conducive to all kinds of outdoor fun going to any of the county's beaches are inexpensive and can be for a hour or an entire day. One hint-start out early to get a parking spot in one of the county public parking lots. Otherwise it's extra trips to the parking meters. There are snack stands and fast food places on and around most of the areas. Or, pack a real old-fashioned ice chest with all your favorite munchies, drinks and sandwiches. Parents can relax while the rest of the family can enjoy the mild waves.

When the Angels (or for a bit of a drive, the Dodgers) are in town, head out to the Edison Field and enjoy a game of America's favorite pastime. Batter up!

If your clan is into marine life-head to the Long Beach Aquarium. Plenty to see and learn. Plus, the fairly new and improved downtown area is fun to eat and walk around in! In the same general area is the National Register Historical Place, better known as the Queen Mary. The ship has several tours to enjoy and a English themed shopping strip. One of the more interesting tours is "The Ghosts and Legends of the Queen Mary".

If you're into theme parks, Orange County is hardly lacking in choices: Knotts Berry Farm, Soak City (it doesn't open until May), Wild Rivers Water Park (again, opens late May), Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure.

If you want to keep the "theme" idea going-try Medieval Times for dinner theatre. Audience participation is encouraged-even applauded. A prince and princess for the evening even get to have special seating and crowns. Well choreographed jousting matching with beautiful horses always captivate the kids as well as their accompanying adults.

There are also several regional parks that offer wildlife walks, talks and daycamps. The Dana Point Harbor has a wonderful program for the tween set about local marine life as well as replica sail boats to investigate. These have a few available overnighters for kids who love to "swab the deck and sleep in the slave quarters" mateys!

Yes, with all the activities available in Orange County, California there is just no reason for residents and any guests they may have to ever say "I have nothing to do!"
