The skin is an amazing organ. It is the largest organ of the body. It is 15% - 20% of an average adult body weight. Approximately 2-3 billion skin cells are shed daily and the entire body surface is renewed every 3-6 weeks. This remarkable organ is the first line of protection for the body. It consists of three layers:

The epidermis or outer layer that serves as a barrier of defense.

The dermis or true skin that determines the appearance of your skin.

The subcutaneous or fatty layer which serves as insulation, padding and as an emergency energy supply for the body.

The skin is a heat regulator, it sweats to cool you down when you are hot and it creates goose bumps and make you shiver when you are cold, the pores get smaller trying to keep the body heat in.

Absorption:

The benefits of sunlight is absorbed through the skin and so is medications and oils.

Secretion:

Sweat and sebum is secreted by the skin which creates the right Ph balance to ward off infection.

Excretion:

The sweat glands excrete toxins and other waste substances from the body.

THE THINNEST SKIN IN THE BODY

The skin under the eye and the area around the eyelid is the thinnest skin in the body.

This is the area that is the first to show signs of aging, "crows feet" and wrinkles.

WHY?

The epidermis in this skin area has fewer oil glands that causes drying and wrinkling

of the skin.

Weakening of the muscles in any part of the body results in wrinkles and so it is with the skin around the eyes.

There is less elastin in this skin area which results in sagging of the surrounding skin.

There is loss of collagen in the area making the skin thinner as aging occurs.

There is usually loss of fat in the area.

These conditions create Peri-orbital Hyper-pigmentation or dark shadowed area under the skin area of the eyes.

According to Michael Sims author of the book "Adams Navel" The eyelids is the one part of the body where oxygen gets to the body some way other than blood. Because the eyes couldn't function if blood washed across them all the time. So, what the eye evolved is getting oxygen to its various parts dissolved in the salt water of tears.

THERMO-LIFT

Thermo-Lift is a new non-surgical procedure. This is an approach to uplifting the eye area which reduces wrinkles and sagging and prevents puffiness around the eyes.

The key to getting the best results with this procedure is early intervention to the eye lids.

The procedure should be done before the eye area starts sagging and shows deep wrinkles.

Thermo-Lift is a safe non-invasive procedure.

It is non-surgical.

Anesthesia used is topical.

The procedure takes about an hour.

After the procedure the patient can immediately return to a normal routine.
