For my family tracking Santa in the 80's before the ease of the internet was through The Weather Channel. Since the internet came along, and I had children of my own, my family has been using these websites to track his movements from the North Pole to houses around the world from Christmas Eve to Christmas Morning. And remember to leave out your cookies and milk on the big night.
NORAD.org
From the December 1st to Christmas Eve on December 24th you can monitor Santa, Mrs. Claus, the Elves and his Reindeer live from the North Pole and watch their progress as they get ready for the big night. And starting on November 25th NORAD also offers trivia, games, Christmas music and pictures from Santa's trip the previous year for your children leading up to Christmas Eve so they can pass the time having fun while waiting for the day to arrive.
With this being the 53rd year that NORAD will be tracking Santa Claus' journey as he delivers gifts to children across the world it will be easy for parents, grandparents and children to track Santa. And with NORAD using Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer's bright red nose for a heat signal keeping track of Santa on December 25th will be easy.
You can also see Santa's 2007 adventure here on Youtube. Youtube is also a great place to be on New Years Eve as several users make their own LIVE videos of Santa's travels. @noradsanta also has a Twitter feed of Santa's journey here.
SantaClaus.net is a cute site that offers plenty of activities for children to enjoy in the days and weeks leading up to Christmas Eve. When you first click on the page you will see Santa's current location at the North Pole, as the time gets closer to the big night you will be able to see Santa and his elves hard at work putting gifts together.
This website also offers a call from Santa, a letter from Santa, Christmas songs, the Naughty or Nice list and The North Pole Times which chronicles what Santa does on his off time and during his busy months leading up to December. You will need Shockwave for most of this site but it is a great family friendly place to go to.
Google Earth is a great tool to use when tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Google sets the interactive globe up so you can watch a live view of Santa traveling around the world. I had 3 different feeds of Santa's trip playing on my computer last year, with Google Earth being one of them.
It's simple to install the program on either a PC or Mac computer and you will have real time photos of Santa flying over famous landmarks and houses while also being able to go back after his visit to certain locations.
This website offers you and your children a way to monitor Santa's trip around the world but also offers a live launching feed straight from The North Pole as Santa says goodbye and takes off for his big night. You can also see the real time countdown clock on the front page to see how many days, hours, minutes and seconds you have until Christmas Eve.
The site also offers games, trivia, Frosty the Snowman Comics and coloring pages among other things. This site has plenty of things to keep you and your children happy and is very family friendly.
This website for tracking Santa on Christmas Eve is fun and offers kids the chance to put a mark on their home location using Santa GPS and when he makes it over your house with his Reindeer you will be alerted to his exact arrival. You can also set alerts for other destinations around the world from Tokyo or London to your best friends house.
With this website you will need to download a program onto your computer. The program is free to use leading up to Christmas Eve but to use it that evening there is a one time fee of $5.95. After you customize it with locations you can sit back and relax without worrying about traffic jams on Christmas Eve. You can also hear Santa's famous HO HO HO and Christmas Music while enjoying the evening with your family.
