Where to Get Traditional Mexican Clothing or Costumes for Cinco De Mayo

Jessica Ann
Cinco de Mayo gives a lot of us a great excuse to go out and down some Coronas. However, for a lot of people it has a much more meaning and the celebration goes deeper than a mug. Whether you're throwing a Cinco de Mayo party or plan to attend some celebration in your town, then you may want to consider going dressed in traditional Mexican clothing. Not only will you fit in nicely, you will look great because these are some of the prettiest clothes I've ever seen. It reminds me of my favorite dress that I ever purchased, which I got in Mexico. It was a gorgeous black dress, worn off the shoulders with several tiered layers of lace. Boy do I miss that dress, although it probably wouldn't look the same as it did 20 years ago. So here are several sites to find great traditional Mexican garb and some costumes to help you really get into having fun this Cinco de Mayo.

Costumes:

Costumecraze.com has a selection of outfits for you and your date this Cinco de Mayo. That is if you can get your date to dress up. All you have to do is put your man in a serape and your lady in a senorita costume and off you go to have loads of fun. Gentlemen, going stag? I would then suggest the "Hey Amigo" costume. It comes with a sombrero, mustache, poncho and pants with attached stuffed donkey. Wait a minute, don't go there, it's supposed to look like you're riding the donkey. You make the call. Ladies, how about a sexy serape dress with bottle holder and four shot glasses and topped off with a Tequila print sombrero. Another option is the "Mexican Hot Tamale" costume where you get an adorable little hat, "puffy" blouse (think Seinfeld, but off the shoulders and on a woman), lovely colorful striped mini skirt and corset belt. These latter choices are certainly for a more adult party which would give the women an opportunity to dress their man as "Zorro." Hey, a man in a black outfit, cape, hat and mask, carrying a sword? I am so there. Don't worry ladies, if you really want to, you can go as Zorro also. Don't want to go too overboard? You can always just go with a sombrero or even a wig for the ladies.

Traditional Mexican Wear:

If you happen to live in the lower 48, you may want to go with something that's going to keep you cool. What better than a lovely authentic Pueblo Dress from lathamtrading.com. This simple dresses are only $32.95 and come in a variety of colors. The dress comes in green, green/grape, pink/white, red, turquoise, grape, orange, peach and pink. The embroidery is very nice on these cool cotton/polyester dresses. You can get even a little more traditional and go for the Ladie's Mexican Fiesta Dress. These $35-$50 dresses come in pink, white, red, turquoise and even one with the Mexican flag colors of red, white and green. You can even find stuff here for the kids. They carry Mexican ponchos for men or women to wear, sombreros or a serape bufanda which can be worn as a scarf for the simplest costume idea. Check here also for poncho and hat costumes for men, women and children.

You also must check out this site as they have some of the most beautiful and traditional dresses I've found. Handartmx.com is going to be the place for ladies to find the perfect dress for a Cinco de Mayo party. They have a wide variety of dresses in a range of sizes from small to xtra-large including 1-3x sizes. Believe me, you can definitely find something here you love and at a pretty reasonable price.
