Most theaters in town are owned by Marcus Theaters, whose convenient website can provide all the information about its screenings far better than I can detail here. The largest theater in the city with 14 screens, and the most movies showing is the Lincoln Grand, located downtown at 1101 P Street. The current scary movies it has playing include Halloween 2, The Final Destination: Death Trip, Jennifer's Body, Sorority Row, and White Out. Matinee showings, those before 6:00 pm, are $6.50 for adults and $5.75 for children, while evening showings are $9.00 for adults and still $5.75 for children.
But there are two other theaters in Lincoln that not all of its residents are as familiar with. First, there's the Mary Riepma Ross Media Art Center (more commonly referred to simply as the Ross). Owned by UNL and located on campus at 313 N 13th St., it is the place in town to see foreign and independent films. From September 25 through October 3rd they're doing midnight showings of Paranormal Activity, described thus on the Ross website- "In PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, after a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban "starter" tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic, but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to." The cost of admission is the regular Ross price, $9.00 general admission, $7.50 for students and children, $6.50 for seniors, and $6.00 for members.
And last but not least, certainly Lincoln's historic JOYO Theater should also not go without mention. The small, one screen, 300-seat theater, located on 6102 Havelock Avenue may not be large, fancy, or modern, but it definitely does have is a lot of class, and a regular showing of a great, cult classic Halloween movie. Every Saturday at midnight, the JOYO has a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with full stage performance. If you've never gone to see a midnight showing/performance of RHPS, it's definitely an experience you should make sure to make, and in Lincoln, the JOYO is the place to do it. The one time that I've gone to see Rocky at the JOYO is undoubtedly amongst my favorite movie-going memories. With the college-age actors running about on stage making motions in front of the screen, shouting things and asking for the audience to shout back, rice getting thrown, super-soakers being sprayed, and all sorts of other craziness, it's a loud and wild time. Everyone should go at least once, if for nothing else than to be able to say they're not an RHPS "virgin".
