Where to Watch Spanish TV Shows Online

Websites Offering Streaming Spanish-Language TV Shows and Movies

Jeffery DeFranco
Online streaming of TV shows and movies has become commonplace these days. If you want to catch your favorite TV show, or watch a full-length feature film online, you can head over to Hulu.com, Fancast.com, visit YouTube for a small selection of dated TV shows and movies, or you can visit TV network websites themselves to watch the latest episodes of your favorite TV shows online. However, most of these venues offer English-only TV shows and movies. If you wanted to brush up on your Spanish, introduce a second or third language to your children, or just get the news in your family's native language, these online video sources do not give you many Spanish-language options.

Undoubtedly, Spanish TV shows and movies, at least online, are not as popular as their English-language counterparts are. However, even though they are more difficult to find, they certainly do exist. Here is a list of the five best locations to find online streaming of Spanish movies and TV shows.

WWiTV

WWiTV provides a database of internet video streams from countries all around the world. It offers live and archived news, sports, movies, and more -- right from your web browser. While the video is not likely to be high quality, regardless of your internet speed, it does offer free online streaming of Spanish TV shows, news, movies, and sports from Spain, Mexico, Columbia, El Salvador, and many more Spanish-speaking countries and networks.

Univision

Univision is a well-known Spanish-language TV network. What is less known about Univision, and its holdings such as Galavision and TeleFutura, however, is that they offer free online streaming for some of their most popular TV shows -- Así Es La Vida, Decorando Contigo, Cristina, Moda Al Rescate, and several others.

Online Video Guide

The online video guide is a comprehensive listing of a wide range of online video sources -- both professional and amateur. While their database is not limited to Spanish-speaking video websites, they have one of the largest lists of Spanish-language video resources available today.

Multilingual Books

This website, while it offers mostly public access Spanish TV shows and video, does provide direct links to a couple-of-dozen Spanish-language video streams. You need either Windows Media Player or Real Player installed to watch these streaming TV shows.

Netflix

While not a free online TV and movie solution like the rest of our list, Netflix provides a decent number of Spanish movies -- over 150 available for online streaming at present -- that alone may be worth the nominal subscription fee. Because Netflix also gives you the option of receiving DVD rentals, the Spanish-language video library grows considerably if you add a couple of Spanish-language DVD rentals to their online streaming library.

Unfortunately, finding Spanish movies and TV shows online is significantly more difficult than locating free English-language videos. While this list may be short, it provides a comprehensive view of the general availability of Spanish-language videos online. If you want real choices for Spanish-language media, however, you'll probably have to pay for it -- either through cable TV or satellite, or through a DVD rental service like Netflix.
