Where in the World Are Free Geography Games Online

Geography is important for people of all ages. The world news is viewed daily yet many people don't know where in the world this news is happening. Really think about it. If you were given a map of the world, would you be able to identify where Iraq is? A great way to freshen up on your geography knowledge is to go online and play around! There are a number of free online geography game sites for children, students and adults. Have fun with it!

http://www.lizardpoint.com/fun/geoquiz/ This is a fun site to test knowledge on geography of the world. These are the choices of areas to be quizzed on: Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, South America, United States, World - Continents and Oceans, Middle East, Central America, Caribbean, Oceania, and China. If maps were this much fun and interactive when I was in school, maybe I would have paid more attention then.

http://www.funbrain.com/where/ Fun Brain is an easy way to practice and learn a variety of geography. The player has the choice of the Map and the difficulty level. The map choices are: United States, Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and World. This is how the difficulty levels are broken down: Level 1: Identify which country or state is highlighted (multiple choice), Level 2: Spell the name of the highlighted state or country, Level 3: You are given the capital. Identify the country or state (multiple choice),Level 4: You are given the capital. Spell in the country or state, and Level 5: Identify which country or state is highlighted, and fill in the capital. This is a great game for students or just about anyone who wants to brush up on their geography skills. I did the U.S. map quiz a number of times and was pleased to see my score get better and better. It became almost addicting trying to beat my previous score.

http://www.eduplace.com/geonet/ This is an excellent site for children and students. The range of learning on this site is extensive. GeoNet is an animated fun site for kids. It's simple to use this site. You start by choosing between the United States and the World. Then you choose a more defined area. Then you finally chose a category. The categories are so interesting and diverse, they are: The World in Spatial Terms (Location), Places and Regions (Physical and Human Characteristics), Physical Systems (Land, Air, Water, and Living Things), Human Systems (Population, Culture, and Interdependence), Environment and Society (Human-Environmental Interactions), and The Uses of Geography (Changes Over Time). This site is different from any geography site I've seen. I like that the questions are about more than just identifying specific locations.

http://www.triviaplaza.com/trivia.php?quiz=geography-world This site isn't as "animated" (childish) as the GeoNet site but it offers some great geography quizzes and games (for either students or adults). The map choices on TriviaPlaza.com are: Africa, America, Asia, Europe, General, Oceania, and World. The categories in these areas are great. They vary in each map area category. Some examples are: Landmarks, Regions, Flags, Capitals, Shapes, Cities, and even License Plates! Once the player gets through the questions they are given a grade A through F. A side note about the triviaplaza.com site is that they have other trivia areas of interest such as: pop music, movie, science, computer, literature, and classical music.
