Wheres the Best Fishing in Florida?

Many Florida sportsman are already aware of Central Florida's diversity of fresh and saltwater opportunities to catch over 150 types of fish. The first time I visited Florida I was impressed by the different types of fish that you could try to catch. Heres 30 varieties that come to mind. Mangrove Snapper, Amber Jack, Gag Grouper, Red Snapper , Sea Trout, Speckled Trout, Gator Trout, Tarpon, Sabalo, Silver King, Lady Fish, Poor Man's Tarpon, Blue Fish, Crevalle Jack Sailfish, Sail Fish, Goliath Grouper , Red fish,Common Snook, Sword spine Snook, Black Snook, Fat Snook, Robalo, Cobia, Ling, Lemon Fish, Black Drum, Dolphin, Mahi Mahi, Dorado King Mackerel, King Fish, King fish, Mackerel, Triple tail. Simply amazing isn't it that so many different types of fish are here!

In my opinion the Indian River Lagoon and surrounding area is ideal for catching these fish and I have only listed one fifth of the types. I would say it is difficult not to catch fish in this place! Every time we would go fishing in or around The Indian River Lagoon we caught fish. So to me it is some of the best fishing in Florida if not the best in the USA. One reason I believe is we always fished near the Sebastian Inlet. There are many places near the Inlet that you do not need a boat to access great fishing. They are easy to find, you can drive north or south of Sebastian Inlet on A1A and see spots where you can fish directly in the Indian River Lagoon. In fact you can drive all the way to Ft Pierce on A1A going south and find the Ft Pierce Inlet. Great Fishing also!

If you look towards the ocean you will also see many spots where fisherman park there vehicles and drag their gear to the beach. Be careful when parking along the road way on A1A you will get a ticket. If you want to fish in the ocean look for a park as I said either north or south of Sebastian Inlet. Crossing over the Sebastian Inlet bridge, the south side is Brevard county, the north side is Indian River county.

There are plenty of bait shops in the area. The Inlet has a bait shop and huge jetty to fish from, but there is an admission charge. Sebastian Inlet State Park is a popular surfing and fishing spot in Central Florida. Usually the admission is worth it even if you don't catch fish you may see a few other people catch some big ones! I watched several people pull in fish that weighed well over 100 lbs . when I have visited the park.

We used all types of baits but it seemed that live shrimp out produced most other baits. Some suggestions for catching fish in the area is to try to go fishing on an in coming tide. Tidal charts are available at the bait shops and are reported in the local newspapers. Please respect the residents properties in the area, sometimes it can be hard to tell if you are on private property. Most of the parks in the area are free from Wabasso to Melborne except Sebastian inlet, you can find a great place to fish and spend the day in the unique surroundings of the Indian River Lagoon area. The sun can be harsh so bring appropriate gear to protect you from the sun. Also bring plenty of water to drink. Be aware that drinking Beer in the state parks and beaches is normally prohibited.
