Where's My Refund Can Help You Find Your IRS Refund Status

Jeffrey Weeks
Where's My Refund is a brand new online tool available on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website which can assist you in checking on the status of your refund.

With Where's My Refund you can now usually get information about your refund within 72 hours after the IRS acknowledges receipt of your internet-filed return. If you have mailed in your IRS return then the waiting time is usually around three to four weeks.

In order to find out on your tax return status from the new IRS website Where's My Refund, you will require the following:

Your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

Your Current Filing Status.

The exact whole dollar amount of your refund.

The IRS recommends that tax returns be filed electronically to eliminate the risk of lost paper returns, and that refund deposits be made by direct deposit. The IRS reminds citizens that it does not contact taxpayers by e-mail to alert them of pending refunds, and such messages are common identity theft scams.
