Which American Idol Top 24 Finalists Will Make the Top 12?

Here Are My Early Picks for a Dashing Dozen -- Who Are Yours?

Linda Ann Nickerson
"American Idol" judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler whittled down the Season 10 contestant roster from thousands, to hundreds, to 60 and then to 24. After a tearful and much-hyped melodramatic two-day announcement, the top two dozen have been revealed.

The two dozen finalists include 12 males and 12 females, ranging in age from 16 to 26. Although "American Idol" dropped the minimum age requirement this season, accepting 15-year-old contestants for the first time, none of these youngsters made the Top 24 - not even judges' favorite Jacee Badeaux, of Lafayette, Louisiana.

The top age limit is still 28, limiting which dropped contestants will be eligible for Season 11 auditions, if "American Idol" returns after this season.

Here are the Top 24 "American Idol" finalists for Season 10.

Listed alphabetically, sorted by guys and girls, here's the Top 24 lineup for 2011.

Top 12 guys:

Casey Abrams (20), of Idyllwild, California

Jovany Barreto (23), of Harvey, Louisiana

Jordan Dorsey (21), of Donaldsville, Louisiana

James Durbin (22), of Santa Cruz, California

Clint Jun Gamboa (26), of Long Beach, California

Tim Halperin (23), of Fort Worth, Texas

Stefano Langone (21), of Kent, Washington

Brett Loewenstern (17), of Boca Raton, Florida

Jacob Lusk (23), of Compton, California

Scotty McCreery (17), of Garner, North Carolina

Paul McDonald (26), of Nashville, Tennessee

Robbie Rosen (19), of Merrick, New York

Top 12 Girls:

Naima Adedapo (26), of Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Lauren Alaina (16), of Rossville, Georgia

Kendra Chantelle (22), of Nashville, Tennessee

Ashthon Jones (24), of Nashville, Tennessee

Thia Megia (16), of Mountain House, California

Haley Reinhart (20), of Wheeling, Illinois

Karen Rodriguez (21), of New York City, New York

Pia Toscano (22), of Howard Beach, New York

When will the Top 12 be selected?

Auditions for the Top 12 male finalists and the Top 12 female finalists for "American Idol" will air on Fox TV on Tuesday, March 1, and Wednesday, March 2 (respectively). Viewers will vote by phone and texting, as well as on the "American Idol" Facebook voting page (new this year).

Which "American Idol" Top 24 finalists are likely to make the Top 12 for Season 10?

Obviously, anything can happen on the "American Idol" stage.

Even the most pitch-perfect performers can choke. Viewers can vote in unpredictable and seemingly ridiculous ways, perhaps encouraged by such efforts as "Vote for the Worst, which is already asking online readers to rank the least likely winners." (Remember Sanjaya Malakar?)

Having issued those qualifiers, here are my own early picks for the Top 24 for "American Idol" Season 10.

Top 12 guys (my preliminary picks) :

Casey Abrams (if health permits)

James Durbin

Tim Halperin

Brett Loewenstern

Jacob Lusk

Robbie Rosen

Clint Jun Gamboa is another close call, particularly if health concerns knock Casey Abrams out of the "American Idol" competition for Season 10.

Top 12 girls (my preliminary picks):

Ashthon Jones

Thia Megia

Haley Reinhart

Pia Toscano

Julie Zorrilla

Rachel Zevita

Next week, I'll be watching and waiting, along with millions of other viewers. My texting trigger fingers will be poised, as I hope my "American Idol" Season 10 favorites will not disappoint. How about you?
