Anyone who drives a car knows that insurance is expensive - really expensive in some cases. But that doesn't mean you can't good a great deal for your money and keep yourself and your wheels on the road for less.

Insurance costs can account for eleven percent of ownership costs over the first five years of owning a vehicle, so considering the amount of insurance you will have to pay on a new vehicle should calculate into your figures when deciding if you can afford a car or not.

What factors go in to calculating a car's insurance price tag?
There are quite a handful of factors that go into this, including the make, the price tag of the car, its fancy-schmany features, your own driving habits, the size of the car and the power it has under the hood.

Good driving habits will keep your insurance costs low, which is just another incentive to be a safe driver. Luxury features, however, in your car will cost you more when it comes to insurance. So, a Porsche will lighten your wallet considerably more than a minivan. In fact, affordable wagons, vans and sedans are usually the least expensive to insure while big muscle cars will run you more on your insurance premiums.
