Which Christmas Shopper Are You?

Most people are guilty of last minute shopping. No matter how many reminders of how to avoid the Christmas rush abound, no one seems capable of shopping ahead of time. As it gets closer and closer to Christmas you will find that parking lots of malls are filled, and stores are flooded with shoppers who are all eager to buy the perfect gift. People get restless and the search for the perfect gift turns into a search for the acceptable gift. Although people have the whole year to prepare for the holidays, almost everyone chooses to shop at the last minute.

There are different types of last minute Christmas shoppers. There are those who do it out of necessity, and there are some who have been a victim of their own procrastination. Others even do it because they find it exciting.

There are a number of reasons why we become last minute shoppers. The most innocent, is the shopper who does it out of necessity. For instance, college students living on campus find it hard to shop before Christmas. Most of them have no cars, and they have several final exams to take at the end of a semester. They have to spend the early part of December studying, or else they will fail. Their final exams make up fifty percent of their grades, so it is quite understandable that they become last minute shoppers.

The procrastinators, another type of shopper, may start out by shopping in October or November but they end up buying things for themselves instead. Even if Christmas is near, they do not feel compelled to shop until the last minute. They then find themselves in the crowded stores of malls in a last minute shopping frenzy.

And then there are those who do it because they find it exciting or simply because they prefer to do it at the last minute. They actually see it as a challenge to find the perfect gift as Christmas comes nearer. They are aware of the time but this only makes them confident that they will purchase what they are looking for. Although it can get stressful, it is somewhat exciting too, to feel the sense of energy that goes with it, and to feel the spirit of the holidays as we see hundreds of people rushing in and out of the malls just for the thought of gift-giving. In the end, we know that it is all worth it.
