Which Fighters Have the Worst Nicknames in Boxing History?

Top 5 Worst Nicknames in Boxing

Jake Emen
Throughout boxing history there has been an endless stream of terrible, regrettable boxing nicknames. From names that were plain racist, to names that would have caused you to be terribly beaten up and made fun of if you weren't a professional boxer. Recent boxing history has seen plenty of awful boxing nicknames come to the surface as well. Here are some of my "favorites", my list of the top 5 worst boxing nicknames over the past decade.

5. Juan Lazcano - "The Hispanic Causing Panic" - This one could have just as easily made my list of the best boxing nicknames ever if Lazcano ever did end up causing much panic. However, he lost the majority of the big bouts in his career.

4. John Ruiz - "The Quiet Man" - The only thing worse than being known as "The Quiet Man" is the way that Ruiz fought. Considering, "The Quiet Man" is much better than "The Guy That Does Nothing But Clinch and Ruins Your Night of Fun Boxing Entertainment".

3. Calvin Brock - "The Boxing Banker" - Yes, you used to be a banker, and then you were a professional boxer. That doesn't mean that you should combine the two into one nickname. Why don't you just take your middle name and the street name from where you grew up and combine the two of those?

2. Joel Casamayor - "El Cepillo" - The Brush, if you're curious as to what El Cepillo means. Considering the nickname and his questionable age (the Cuban defector is technically 38 years old, but could just as easily be approaching 60 judging from his recent performances in the ring) he is the perfect next candidate for a Just for Men spokesman.

1. Lance Whitaker - "Goofi" - Does this one really need an explanation? He had a second nickname, "Mount", in apparent efforts to discard "Goofi." I prefer - "Mount Goofi." The heavyweight once showed promise but quickly ended up losing nearly every one of his step-up bouts.

These are just a few of the worst boxing nicknames over the past few decades. There have been dozens of regrettable names throughout boxing history, and surely everyone will remember their own "favorites"- feel free to add them in the comments.
