Which Football Rookie Cards to Collect in 2009

Kaitlyn Joseph
As a sports card fanatic, I love taking a look at which rookie cards are selling the most each year. If you are looking for a hot rookie to collect this will be a list of the top 5 you will want to consider. On the other hand, if you do not want to collect one of the more popular rookies, then this will be a top 5 list of players that you won't want to collect.

To get this information I looked at the football draft, eBay auctions, and asked some football collectors and store owners about which players were the hottest to get right now. These are the picks that I came up with. If you have any comments or some more suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment.

1. Mark Sanchez - Mark was the 5th draft pick overall and the second quarterback picked in the 2009 NFL Draft. He played for USC during his college years and was considered a great leader and QB. Mark is currently the starting quarterback for the New York Jets and has been posting decent numbers during the pre-season games. It is still undecided is he will work out in the Jets offense but his cards have been selling very well on Ebay and in card shops, so if you are looking to get some of his cards, you might be better off trying to trade for them instead of buying them. But there are always deals to be found, and you might even get lucky and pull one of his cards from a pack. No matter if you are a fan of this guy or not, there is no denying that his cards are a hot commodity right now.

2.Matthew Stafford - Matthew was the first overall pick of the NFL Draft. He played for the University of Georgia, and did a great job showing off his powerful arm. Stafford left school early for the NFL, so we will see if missing that last year affects him on the field. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions, who were looking to boost their offense. Stafford's cards have been selling very well. He is a bit underestimated and that is why his cards are not selling as well as Sanchez's cards. As a rookie, we will see if he gets the playing time to help the Lions offense this year.

3. Knowshon Moreno - Knowshon was drafted 12th overall in the NFL draft. The Denver Broncos are the team that signed him and they are hoping for some big runs from this young man. Knowshon was also a University of Georgia player, alongside Stafford. he posted great offensive numbers for the Bulldogs during his time there. Many Bronco fans have starting collecting Knowshon's cards heavily, so the prices are pretty high for this young man. If you see a steal of a deal, then definitely take it.

4. Percy Harvin - Percy was the 22nd pick of the NFL Draft for the Minnesota Vikings. Percy unfortunately tested postive for drugs at the NFL combine but he still had a good performance once he was cleared. Percy played for the Florida Gators and was a huge key to their offensive success. He skipped his senior year to go straight into the NFL and is hoping to give the Vikings some help. His college cards and Vikings cards have been selling great and are certainly a nice item for any collection. If he stays out of drugs and puts up a good first year, his cards should only increase in value.

5. Donald Brown - Donald Brown is somewhat of a "sleeper", which means many collectors overlook him but a great deal of collectors are still buying his cards. He was drafted 27th in the NFL draft pick and was the first Connecticut Huskie to be picked in the first round. He got picked up by the Indianoplis Colts. He did have 58 yards rushing during is first preseason game against the Vikings. His cards are selling well and some collectors are hoping to have a nice turnaround if he plays well his rookie year. His cards are not selling as hot or for as much as the top 3 rookies but you should keep your eyes out for some deals on his cards.

Thanks for reading! Let me know if you have any thoughts about these rookies are if you think there is a rookie that I missed. For sports card trading, buying, or selling, please check out SportsCardFreaks.com.
