Which Reality Show Host SHOULD Win the Emmy?

Reality Rehash
On Sunday night the second Emmy award for best reality show host will be handed out. Last year Jeff Probst took home the win, after many thought Ryan Seacrest would, and both are up yet again. Along side them the nominees also include Phil Keoghan, Tom Bergeron, Heidi Klum and sharing a nomination are Tom Collichio and Padma Lakshmi. All host differing ways and in differing magnitudes but who do I think should take home the win? Let's take a look at each nominee and see why they deserve the Emmy award.

Jeff Probst - Survivor

Last year Jeff took home the first ever Emmy award for best reality show host. I personally believe he deserved it but many were surprised that he beat out Ryan Seacrest. Jeff may have one of the tougher times hosting considering he's out in the wild almost as much as the contestants themselves. He's the "grandfather" of hosting and many have tried to duplicate his tactics. While Jeff may have started Survivor as purely a voice over, he's grown with the series and remains the sole reason some people watch I'm sure. He has little direction on Tribal Council and must build on what he hears from the players. For that simple fact I think Jeff deserves it again but with new blood he has some competition.

Phil Keoghan - The Amazing Race

Phil as technically won several Emmys before but for the show itself rather then personally. Like Jeff, Phil is never on a soundstage and travels the same route the contestants take. One thing going for Phil is not only does he host the show, he hosts a web series which documents his life as the host of the Amazing Race. Voice-overs and eliminations aren't his only gig on the show either as Phil often demonstrates some of the tasks for us, even going as far as running his underwear last season. Phil has potential to win simply because like Jeff he doesn't read a teleprompter, must think on his feet and actually travels around the world. Oh... and fans even created a new word in his honor: Philimination.

Ryan Seacrest - American Idol

Being that American Idol is the reality show staple, Ryan Seacrest has a lot going on for a possible win. He proved that he has on the spot skills last season when several technically difficulties plagued the set and he knows how to balance ten million jobs at one. His banter with the judges doesn't really have to do much with hosting but adds to the show and he's basically the face behind American Idol each and every season. Although Ryan may read a teleprompter, he's another one of those staple hosts that people try to mimic on every American Idol clone. Nobody can get it quite right which could lead to an Emmy going his way this time around.

Tom Bergeron - Dancing With The Stars

Tom probably has the most experience hosting if you think about the amount of shows he's hosted. Starting with Hollywood Squares he went on to host America's Funniest Home Videos and eventually Dancing With the Stars. Like Ryan he also goes away from the teleprompter and seems to have witty one liners between each dance. Also bantering with the judges doesn't hurt but I honestly don't seem him taking home the Emmy win. Sure the show is huge, but Tom isn't the star of the show like the others may be.

Heidi Klum - Probst Runway

Never watching Project Runway I don't feel it's fair to judge her hosting but from what I do know many feel she shouldn't even be nominated. Heck I always thought Tim Gunn hosted that show... guess not. One thing Heidi has going for her though is she isn't only a host, she's a judge as well. She has to double her role and depending on which she's better at she has a chance at winning.

Tom Collichio and Padma Lakshmi - Top Chef

Now these two I know and I know them rather well. I was never sure which was the actual host of the show so I'm glad they at least gave Tom a chance at winning. One small factor I see here is they are more judges then hosts. Sure they give instructions on how to perform the Quick Fire and Elimination challenges, but when that's done they leave only to return for tasting and judges table. They probably have the easiest hosting gig of them all as well, none of their show is live and they get to taste great (usually) food for weeks upon weeks. Tom and Padma together make a great pair, worth an Emmy? Possibly but I doubt it.

So in the end who gets my vote for a winner? I think it's a close three way tie between Jeff, Ryan and Phil. If had to choose one I'd give it to Jeff simply because he's the best of the best but who knows how the voters will think.
