Whirlpool Plant in Evansville Closing

The Evansville Whirlpool plant is closing. Over 1100 employees at the manufacturing plant will be losing their jobs at Whirpool in Evansville. The official announcement from Whirlpool took place this morning. The plant plans to be closed by the middle of 2010.

"No one ever wants to hear this type of news", said the official director of Communications for Whirlpool in a news conference carried live by all three local television affiliates. The plant on Highway 41 North plans to move some of it's operations to Mexico.

According to the Evansville Courier and Press, Whirlpool has been in Evansville,Indiana for 53 years. It's closing was a shock to workers who phoned in reports to several of the local television affiliates this morning.
