The Whistle Stop Park in Edgewater Florida is a big residential area park in the districts between Oak Hill and New Smyrna Beach Florida, part of the Florida Shores, Edgewater sub-division. There is a public bus route access road, called 30th street, that is off route-1, when heading to Oak Hill, and the public park is located on Roberts Road, off U.S.-1 as well.

This park is known for its sports and recreation. Whistle Stop Park is past the Good Will Thrift Shop, if making a right off U.S.-1, at Burger King. Go down about a mile on Roberts Road, and it is on the right hand side, across from the elementary school, and adjacent to the railroad tracks. Here is a town park that is perfect for sports enthusiasts, and everyone in-between.

At the front of the park is a little bridge that leads, on the left, to the pavilion-type shaded area, and lots of picnic tables. In the front middle of the entrance to the park are the handball and four racquetball courts. In back of this are the four tennis courts, in back of that a basketball court, and three lighted softball areas, with a large expanse of open land for the field in general, and footballers as well. The park goes way back, down the entire length of the neighboring railroad track, and has bright, giant spotlights for the nighttime games. There is also shuffleboard, horseshoes and a walking trail.

The park is also a favorite of locals, for it is open till 11pm, which is a rarity, for most of the local parks close at sunset. Often when you drive by, there are people playing tennis and racquetball into the night. Sometimes teenagers are hanging out near the picnic areas, but this place is pretty well-patrolled by the local police, and the area is definitely family friendly.

This is a good place to walk as well. There is an actual sandy type road, no concrete, so it is like walking on the beach, and one can get a good cardiovascular workout alone just walking along the sand. There are areas designated as well for short sprints on bikes and walking. The only thing this park lacks is a pool, it has almost everything a person could ask for, including a skate-board section. Edgewater also has a YMCA with a pool, and there is a separate skate-board park for the kids in another residential area of Edgewater too, including the popular skate park in the New Smyrna Beach, near the Turnbull Ruins, behind Canal Street.

Edgewater parks are plentiful, but the main parks are situated on Riverside Drive, on the Indian River Lagoon, and appear more to the novice fisherman. This park is great for all ages, and even with the kids using it near the picnic tables as their local hang-out, there are good spots in the park to spread out and get a great workout, play hard and have fun.
