White House: Women Need Not Apply

ButlerReport
I'm very disappointed by the way that Sarah Palin - like her or hate her - has been treated by the women of America who are as determined as a pack of she-dogs that she never sees the inside of the White House.

And not only directly with unabashed criticism for everything Palin is but also by proxy by standing aside and letting our esteemed media bulldoze her. It's a shame. My lesson learned from this election is that men don't need to put women down, you do a great job yourselves and perhaps that's why it's taken so long for women to attain equality. It's going to take a smidge longer.

While you're busy self-righteously lobbing boulders at Mrs. Palin perhaps you should stop for a moment and look in the mirror. Is that perfection you see there? Is that the face of a President? What makes you so special that your only object in political life is to destroy the first chance a woman has at perhaps attaining the presidency? Are you not ashamed at what you see? I would be but I'm not a woman and I gave up on the mirror a long time ago.

You should have the same eagerness that the African Americans have in supporting Obama. They don't care that he's politically inexperienced; smokes like a trooper; has barely graced the halls of the senate; can't tell the border of Afghanistan from Turkmenistan (Turkmenistan?) and turned his back on the greatest female politician in American history (not Nancy Pelosi). No, like people in love, they see no flaws in their candidate. They see no obstacle in getting a candidate of color into the White House. Women of America should follow that lead with a female candidate.

My friend Tommy refers to this as the lobster effect. Some women -and I'm painting with a dangerously board stroke here - are their own worst enemies. Lobsters attack other lobsters who attempt to get out of the tank in the supermarket. As a result none escape. Why? Who knows? It just is.

Sarah Palin is far more than an average woman. She's a mother of five. A duly elected governor of a State of the Union with more experience in politics and public service than Barrack "you didn't know I was a smoker did you?" Obama. Sure she's a woman of opinions - isn't that what women have fought for so long.? That you don't agree with her is not her problem. It's yours. You're not just looking this gift horse in the mouth you're giving her a colonoscopy.

Hillary Clinton would have made a great president. Unfortunately the Democrats decided that a woman was not suitable for the While House and instead cast aside perhaps the most experienced, worldly wise and well known female politician ever, who garnered over 50% of the Primary Votes. The Vice Presidency was her right. I have to say she was perfect - right person, right place, right time and I don't even like her.

That's where the tide of woman's wrath should be directed my friends - aim it at people who decided that a woman has no place in making history. Aim it Obama for not choosing Hillary as his Vice President and very possibly the next President if he doesn't quit smoking and he keels over the Oval Office desk at the first sign of stress.

Men are more supportive of Palin than women because we see her potential, her talents, her...assets. I mentioned Margaret Thatcher in a previous article. Mrs. Thatcher was a mousy self conscious woman when she was first involved in politics. Back then people must have laughed that she would become the 'Iron Lady." Not at all popular by any means but perfectly capable for the job of Prime Minister of our former masters, the British. And what a job she did. Given the opportunity she rose to the occasion and surpassed any prime-Minster in British History since Churchill - perhaps ever.

Palin may be a poor substitute for Hillary but she's there; like it or not. She deserves the chance to prove that she is capable; just as Bill Clinton did. A chance, while you are looking in the mirror, most of us remember being given in our career, when someone decided that we were worth it.

As a woman I would be offended. Why? Because all of the negative attention is being heaped upon Palin because she is a woman - there is disproportionate buzz about the other candidates. The media had her in their sights as soon as she walked through the door. You don't think the White House has room for a woman with a family who perhaps for the first time represents the average Joe and Jill average American? She's not moneyed, didn't attend the best schools, and as a working mom certainly knows your pain.

Shame on you women of America for not rallying around and helping her finally smash that seemingly bullet-proof glass ceiling up there on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Shame.
