Certain tones of white fabric look better against certain skin tones. The hue of white you pick will also determine the color of your bridal accessories and even your wedding theme colors.
Determining Your Skin Tone
Skin tones are generally cool or warm. Deeper skin tone definitions include bronze, ebony and olive.
Cool Skin Tone
Cool skin tones tend to cool undertones, including blue and pink. Tones are considered cool when there are any red, blue or pink undertones, regardless of whether the skin is pale in color or dark brown. Women who look good in pinks, purples, blues, cool greens and pastels have a cool skin tone. Brides with cool skin tones typically have grey or blue eyes.
Bronze Skin Tone
Bronze skin tones are warm. The skin may have yellow, red or even orange undertones. The tone is medium and looks best with gold rather than silver.
Ebony Skin Tones
Ebony skin tones are rich, deep brown. The undertones could be yellow, blue or red.
Warm Skin Tones
Warm skin tones are golden. There is a yellow undertone to the skin. Warm and earthy colors look best with a warm tone. Skin is considered warm when it is very dark brown, brown or medium with golden undertones. Pale skin may also be considered warm when the undertones are more peachy than pink.
Olive
Olive skin has a pale greenish or yellow undertone. There are no pink undertones in olive skin.
White Wedding Dress Shopping for Your Skin Tone
Don't fall in love with a wedding dress that does not suit your tone. Shop for white wedding dresses which you can try on in the white that works for you.
White Wedding Dress for Cool Tones: Bright White
Brides-to-be with cool tones should start their wedding dress shopping by trying on bright white dresses. Bright whites have undertones of blue. Silver accessories will look best with the white wedding dress and cool skin tone. Silver may also be incorporated into the wedding theme colors.
Colors which will work best with white wedding dress, and can be used as wedding theme colors, include cool violet or a cool light blue, pink, cool red, charcoal or a gem-like green.
White Wedding Dress for Bronze Tones: Ecru or White
Brides with bronze tones can choose white or ecru. Accessories should be gold. Colors for the bridesmaids could be amber, peach, rust, brick red, a warm green or camel.
White Wedding Dress for Warm Tones: Ivory
While ivory may not be as traditional as pure white, the bride-to-be needs to pick the hue of white wedding dress which looks best on her. Ivory wedding dresses are creamy and bring out the warmth in skin tones.
Gold or silver may be worn with the ivory wedding dress, it all depends on your preference or your jewelry box. To warm up the ivory wedding dress, opt for gold accessories. Silver will add a cool balance to the ivory and your warm skin tone.
Wedding theme colors to match the ivory wedding dress include any one of these colors: amber, brick red, camel, peach or olive green.
White Wedding Dress for Ebony Skin Tones: White or Ecru
Brides with ebony skin tones can wear either a white wedding dress or an ecru wedding dress. Both gold and silver complement ebony skin tones. Wedding accessories and wedding theme colors could be used in red, khaki, or any rich jewel or earth tones.
White Wedding Dress for Olive Tones: Ecru
Combine ecru with gold for your best wedding day look. When set against an ivory or a bright white, ecru looks almost beige. Wedding theme colors to complement the olive tone and ecru wedding dress include black, navy blue, khaki, cool browns and jewel tones.
At the end of the wedding dress shopping day, what matters is that the bride-to-be loves her dress and how it looks on her. Use these tips on white wedding dress shopping for your skin tone as a jumping off point.

Good resource for brides.
What a fantastic resource! White does not look good on me at all...I wore a very light, pale pink wedding dress...I never imagined wearing pink for a wedding dress but it really looked the best with my skin tone. I received many compliments on it and I was so glad I chose a pale pink.
I agree with Carol on this one. The bride's skin tone is not often a factor when choosing a wedding dress, but it should be. I have an olive complexion, so I often look yellow and ill if I wear white. My wedding dress was white and gold, which brought out my olive skin colour nicely.

I bet this article on choosing the right shade of white wedding dress will be extremely popular. It's something that many people don't think about and just muddle through as they try on white dresses (wedding or otherwise). You have given wonderful information that will save women time shopping and heartbreak over falling in love with the wrong wedding dress.
Very nice article.
Wow...great topic. I never thought about skin tones and wedding whites!
