Always looking to save a few dollars I recently visited whitefence.com . This site promotes itself as a one stop for all your utilities needs. Telephone service, cable TV, high speed Internet, electric, gas, even newspaper and magazine subscriptions. WhiteFence says it will provide you the best deal on all of the before mentioned. Does it deliver?
Once at the site you are prompted to enter your street address. It then asks what services you wish to save on. I started with cable. What is neat is that the service offers a side by side comparison feature. I chose two cable providers and was able to compare both their offerings and price. I found that the package I already have is the most economical. I am not sure if that is god or bad. It would have been nice to have saved some money.
For my next review I chose phone services. Again the side by side comparison is a great tool. In this case my current service was not the best deal.
I found the site extremely handy. Gas and electric did not offer choices. There is only one supplier in my area for each. However the site does offer a green opportunity to electric customers.
WhiteFence offers a program, WhiteFence Green Program, in which consumers may purchase a Renewable Energy Credit (REC). These are also known as green tags.
RECs are a way to offset a person's carbon footprint. In other words depending upon how much energy you consume you are responsible for the burning of fossil fuel. In turn the burning of fossil fuels adds carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Annually about 3.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide are added to the atmosphere. Since 3/4 of greenhouse emissions are carbon dioxide, it stands to reason that reducing CO2 will reduce greenhouse gases.
The WhiteFence website offers an Energy Use Calculator. By inputting your average monthly gas and electric bills it will give your estimated monthly carbon output. In addition it will tell how many RECs it will take to offset your emission's.
In some states you can actually choose to be supplied with green energy. While in others only the purchase of offset credits is possible.
WhiteFence offers an excellent tool for utility comparison shopping. Rather than go from service provider to service provider taking notes, WhiteFence offers one stop shopping.
With the prices of everything going up, saving ten to twenty dollars on utilities can make a big difference.
