The homes are predominantly two-story and ranch-style homes. There are some rentals and rent to owns within the subdivision. You don't see a lot of residents outdoors in this subdivision. It is relatively quiet, and doesn't have a strong family appeal.
Other than convenience of location, the subdivision has very few amenities or frills. There are no sidewalks in the community, but the roads are relatively wide providing adequate walking space. The size of each lot is a little larger than average and the landscaping in the community is mature. There is also not a huge amount of street lighting at night, which makes the subdivision a little spooky at night.
Some of the communities surrounding the subdivision are less desirable and could affect the cost of the homes in the resale process. The type of people living in the surrounding communities might be a deterrent for new residents who research the area prior to choosing a home. In January 2010, Missouri Sex Offender Registry showed 31 registered sex offenders in the same ZIP code as Whitehirst, with at least three in a connecting neighborhood.
Also, while flooding has not affected the community directly, much of the roadway on McClay just west of the subdivision entrance has had problems with drainage in 2009 with heavy rains. In January of 2010, there was a lot of activity on McClay Road in the same location including electrical work and clearing on the shoulder. A brand new community of homes that will sell for around $150,000 is also being developed just west of Whitehirst, which accounts for much of the construction equipment and activity on the road.
Overall, Whitehirst is a nice little subdivision, but the surroundings might lead you to look at other communities that might better fit your family needs.
