What works better to whiten your clothing than bleach does? Actually, the same things that you can use to whiten your teeth, plus the good old fashioned sunlight, can work wonders to naturally whiten your clothing without using bleach at all! Here's how to whiten clothing without using bleach.
White vinegar is a great fabric softener and works great to draw out stains and encourage the clothing to stay whiter as well. Add 1/4 cup white vinegar to your whites in the wash (or any load in the wash for homemade fabric softener) to really whiten them well. Increase to up to a whole cup of vinegar if the load is really large or particularly dirty. For sensitive skin, always add 1/4 white vinegar to your loads to help pull out all the soap that bothers skin.
Lemon juice takes out blood stains and is a natural bleach for clothing, so soak your whites in hot water with lemon juice or lemon slices in it to help keep them white and draw out stains. For very dirty clothing, soak the clothing in water overnight with about 1/4 cup lemon juice to really bleach them, then hang the clothing out in the sun to dry before washing. The sun in combination with the lemon juice provides super bleaching power, all naturally, without even using any actual bleach!
