Whitney Houston Has Comeback Problems Already

Houston, We Did Not Want a Problem

Whitney Houston attempted to begin her big comeback this week by releasing her first album in seven years, "I Look to You", doing an interview with Oprah and then a free concert for 4,000 fans in Central Park for ABC's Good Morning America. There were other events but the one making news right now is the semi-performance put on by Whitney Houston in Central Park.

Let me say up front that I am a huge Whitney Houston fan. I have loved her music and incredible voice all the way back when I was a teenager. When she sings "I Will Always Love You", with the incredible a cappella introduction, I still get chills. Whitney Houston sang the song for her film debut in "The Bodyguard" with Kevin Costner. That song went on to sell over 12 million copies worldwide and remains number one on VH1's 100 Greatest Love Songs and comes in at number sixty-eight on Billboard's Greatest Songs.

Many fans have watched with eager anticipation to see the huge comeback of Whitney Houston. The free concert

took place at Rumsey Playfield in New York's Central Park and there were about 4,000 fans onsite to see Whitney Houston. Some of those devoted fans had actually spent the night in line waiting to see the pop star diva.

But as Whitney Houston started her first song "Million Dollar Baby" it was obvious that something with her voice just wasn't quite right and some notes were cracking. It also seemed at times that the singer was out of breath. As Whitney Houston sang "My Love is Your Love", that included a brief appearance by her daughter Bobbi, she has the same problems with her voice.

After just those two songs she took a break but then managed to quickly return to the stage to perform "I Look to You" in an emotional deliver watched by her Mother. Whitney Houston then apologized to the 4,000 fans for her voice offering as an excuse that she had just completed an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The crowd reaction was somewhat accepting, and Whitney then completed the free concert in the park with the fantastic "I'm Every Woman". That was it for performing for Whitney Houston for today.

It should be noted that Whitney Houston, age 46, looked absolutely fantastic in slim leather pants, a tan tunic and matching jacket. She looked to be in incredible shape. Whitney Houston's career has been a bumpy one since her early beginnings marred by drug allegations, legal issues and a difficult and supposed-abusive marriage to Bobby Brown.

For all the problems, Whitney Houston is a national musical treasure and I am certainly hoping that she will ease back into the musical spotlight with grace and natural talent. Let's give Whitney Houston, and her new album, a little time to find their way into the hearts of music lovers.
