Whitney Houston I Look to You: Early Album Review

Does Whitney Deliver on Her Comeback?

The Reviewer
Whitney Houston is undeniably one of the biggest names in the history of music. She has had some of the biggest hits of all time. It has almost been a decade since Whitney released her last album the lackluster Just Whitney, she is now back with her long anticipated album I Look To You. Will I Look To You live up to the hype.

The first official single off of I Look To You is Million Dollar Bill produced by Swizz Beatz and written by Alicia Keys. The song is one of the catchier tracks on the album and well executed in all ways. The production and writing are top notch.

I Didn't Know My Own Strength was created by musical heavyweights David Foster and Diane Warren. The track is what you expect from Whitney a big ballad that showcases her vocal ability. Although she does not sound as good as she has in the past, Whitney can still sing.

I Look To You is produced by Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Harvey Mason Jr. and written by R. Kelly. The song is not what you expect from Tricky and harkens back to his work with Celine Dion.

Like I Never Left is a duet between Whitney and Akon. The track is written by Claude Kelly and produced by Akon. The song works well but it is not the strongest effort on the album. There are minor vocal effects on Whitney's voice which detracts from the effort.

A Song For You is a cover of the song originated by Leon Russell and made popular in the urban community by Donny Hathaway. This effort is helmed by Harvey Mason Jr. The track starts out similar to the original and then segues into a dance friendly version.

Call You Tonight is also a very solid track. The song was written by Johnta Austin and produced by StarGate. The song is extremely well written and catchy. StarGate as always come with strong production and Whitney delivers a fairly strong vocal to go with it.

Nothin' But Love is produced by Nate "Danja" Hills. The track just sounds extremely awkward with the heavy presence of vocal effects on Whitney's voice. The lyrics also do not seem to be a match for Whitney.

Worth It is written by Johnta Austin and produced by Eric Hudson. The song is fairly catchy and sounds appropriate for Whitney to be delivering. Her vocals on the track are some of the smoothest of the whole effort.

Danja returns on the very dance friendly For The Lovers. The song is one of the better up-tempo tracks on the album.

From I Look To You it is clear that Whitney Houston is back. It is not hard to deliver a strong album when you are working with some of the best writers and producers in the music industry. Overall I Look To You gets 8 out of 10. If you are a fan of Whitney Houston make sure you pick up I Look To You when it is available in stores on August 31st.
