Adam Lambert was born on January 29, 1982 and grew up in Rancho Peñasquitos, San Diego, California. He started singing and performing at the age of 3, but it wasn't until the age of 10 that he landed a part in the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown", where he played Linus. So at the age of 27, that gives Adam Lambert 17 years of stage experience. No wonder he seems so relaxed and professional up on the American Idol stage.
As a child and teenager, Adam went on to star in "Peter Pan" (as Peter), "Big River" (as Huck Finn), "Fiddler on the Roof" (Russian Tenor), and the "Secret Garden", where he played both Dickon and Archie. After high school, Adam went on tour for six months in Europe with the musical "Hair". Back in the States, Adam Lambert played opposite Val Kilmer in the musical "Ten Commandments" and understudied the role of Fiyero, the love interest, in "Wicked" in the Los Angeles production.
That's quite a resume for a 27-year old. All of this experience makes him what is known in Hollywood as a "triple threat". Adam Lambert can act, sing, and dance. Few in Hollywood can say the same.
While American Idol is a singing contest, Adam Lambert takes it a step further. American Idol is looking for the next star, not just a good singer. That involves performing as well as singing. Adam Lambert has both those abilities.
Adam is an incredible singer with an amazing range and pitch, plus a consummate performer. From his musical and stage background, Adam himself, with the permission of Idol, has directed his own lighting, clothing choices, makeup, and staging when he performs on American Idol. Adam Lambert performs, not just sings, and that is what American Idol is looking for.
As to Adam Lambert's singing abilities, they are virtually flawless. He has perfect pitch. In fact, a panel of judges from the operatic community rated Adam Lambert - his voice, looks, charisma, and specific songs. The San Diego News Network reports that the judges were impressed by his voice (as well as everything else), which is something to say, coming from the operatic community.
Adam Lambert has been creating quite a stir in the blogs and news. MSNBC contributor Craig Berman says about Adam, "No finalist in history has been more memorable week after week than Adam Lambert."¹ That's an understatement, especially if you read some of Adam Lambert's fan sites such as the Lamb Skanks, the Glamberts, or the Adam Bombs. The interesting thing about Adam (from reading the forums) is that he attracts a very wide age range of fans, from tweens to even eighty-somethings. That's a strong testament to his singing and performing skills.
American Idol will feature the two finalists Adam Lambert and Kris Allen on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 for two hours, after which there will be four hours of voting. Tune in to see what all the buzz about Adam Lambert is.
