This college basketball season has gotten off to a great start. With teams like UCLA and North Carolina battling for number 1, and teams like Memphis and Duke not far behind, this is sure to be another exciting season of hoops. Part of the excitement surrounding this season is the presence of so many great freshman. While it may be too early to determine who's the best among this class, I present you with a look at some of the best players for you to decide.

Derrick Rose, Memphis. Many people have compared this point guard to the likes of Jason Kidd. This sensational freshman will make the Memphis Tigers a tough team to stop this year. Nicknamed "Pooh" Derrick Rose was considered by many to be the best prospect in the 2007 class. This Chicago native is incredibly fast and can create his own shot. Rose will need to continue to improve his outside shooting, however he will still be a super freshman and will give the Tigers a great chance to make it to the Final Four.

Kevin Love, UCLA. It's ironic that UCLA and North Carolina are the top two teams at the start of this season. Love was highly recruited by both schools and actually had narrowed his list down to these two schools before finally choosing UCLA. Love is a great inside player. With his 6-7 frame he reminds me a lot of a Christian Latener. He has the ability to bang down on the blocks and can also knock down the medium range jump shot. He is an excellent passer and unselfish player. Love makes the Bruins a title contender despite losing their best player Afflalo to the NBA.

Michael Beasley, Kansas State. Michael Beasley is ready to take the spot of Kevin Durant in the Big 12. He is an amazing freshman who can carry his team with his play. This 6-8 forward has a great post up game and amazing scoring ability around the basket. This high school star won multiple championships along side now NBA rookie Kevin Durant. With his ability to score and create his own shot, Beasley will make Kansas State a potential tournament team.

Patrick Patterson- Many people wondered where this incredible freshman would end up. Considering that Florida won back to back championships, one would assume he would have headed to Gator land. Despite the departure of Tubby Smith, Patterson elected to go to Kentucky and become a wildcat. Patterson is already making an incredible impact. He is a super low post player with an array or post up moves. Hopefully UK will be able to keep him around long enough to surround him with some talent, and make a championship run.

O.J Mayo, USC. Many expect this freshman to make the quick leap to the NBA. He has amazing speed and the ability to create his own shot. He is a tremendous leaper and scorer. He will make USC a top 25 team, and based on their performance last year in the NCAA tournament, the addition of Mayo could make them a sleeper for the Final Four.
