Who is the Best Quarterback in NFL History? Answer: Joe Montana - NOT Brett Favre

Joe Montana Has 4 Superbowl Rings, So Does Bradshaw!

Arguably, Brett Favre is the best quarterback of all time. So let's argue. Yes, Brett has won some lofty records, as follows (oh yeah all you BF fans, he has the record for most interceptions).

Most Pass Attempts, Career, 8,758, Brett Favre, 1991-2008

Most Pass Completions, Career, 5,377, Brett Favre, 1991-2008

Most Passing Touchdowns, Career, 442, Brett Favre, 1991-2008

Most Passing Interceptions, Career, 288, Brett Favre, 1991-2008

Most Passing Yards, Career, 61,657, Brett Favre, 1991-2008

Most Games, 300 Yards or More Passing, Career, 63, Brett Favre, 1991-2008

When you look at this, one may think that BF "LEADS" these categories. I beg to differ. Brett WON these categories with the highest score.

So who could be better? Perhaps Johnny Unitas? This man delineated the position of quarterback from all other positions in the NFL. He was a 5 time NFL MVP (elected), 10 time Pro Bowl member, and LED his team to 3 NFL championships. By contrast, BF is only a 3 time NFL MVP, has been nominated to the pro bowl only 9 times, and LED his team to a Superbowl ONLY 1 time. Hey Brett, it is nice to have WON all those records, but you have to LEAD you team to and WIN the big game (can you say Jim Kelly).

But when you get right down to it, you cannot argue that Joe Montana was the best in the business. LEADING his team to 4 Superbowl rings, being voted Superbowl MVPs 3 times, voted 2 time NFL MVP and 8 elections to the Pro Bowl, Joe shows that not only can he LEAD; he can WIN and excel in the big games. Montana was the catalyst (i.e. LEADER) that resulted in 4 Superbowls for San Francisco. He was a true team player and team players LEAD AND WIN games, especially the big game. Joe Montana and the 49ers won it 4 times; Brett, only once.

Let's not forget that when Joe Montana lost his job to a younger, better quarterback, and honestly wanted to continue to play football, he respectfully asked to be traded to another team. Upon be acquired by the Kansas City Chiefs, he LED them to the playoffs. Then he retired. What did Favre do? When he found out that a younger, better quarterback was replacing him, he cried his way into retirement only to 4 months later embarrass himself by whining his way back into the league. This was NOT very classy for the "best" quarterback of all time.

So when I see people make the claim that the best are the best because they hold individual records (this means WON the record), it makes me a bit sad.

Terry Bradshaw was better than Brett!

He possessed an almost mystical calmness in the midst of chaos, especially with the game on the line in the fourth quarter. While others saw turmoil and danger after the snap, Montana saw order and opportunity.

why didn't you mention Dan Marino ? I know he doesn't have any rings but he was a great QB I think the list should go like this...Joe Montana,Bradshaw Marino and the BF with Jonny U close behind

Superbowl wins are a TEAM effort individual records are what counts and Brett owns 90% of them. A quarterback like Grossman could have taken the 49er to 4 superbowls with the TEAM Joe Montana had, but Grossman will never come close to posting numbers like Farve has.

Yea well all yall that think Brett Favre is old and dryed up and done with the great plays. Yall are wrong. Hes a 40yr old quarterback in the nfl with a 7-1 record at this point. Has the 2nd least interceptions right now and is tied for first on most td's this season. If favre had a stacked team every year he played he would go to the superbowl too, like tom brady, big ben, and even older quarterbacks like joe montana. He hasnt had a great team around him his whole year. I tip my hat to brett. Hes gona be a 40yr old quarterback holding the superbowl trophy this year with the vikings. So yall get over it.

Most of Favre's records show more that he has been in the NFL for a long, long, long time than that he is a great player. He's taking advantage of the League, the Media, and the Fans

Brett Favre is turning into more of a joke every season. He will surely embarrass himself even more this season. I've never seen a more selfish NFL player, not even T.O. It's time for the pasture. Favre, with his NFL record 310 interceptions, will undoubtedly prove that this season. And after a quick payday and a few more added yards to a career that has aready been way to long, I quess he will retire AGAIN. What a joke, what a bum. The true victim is the media writers. Another season of explaining him, excusing him, and trying to ignore his continued failure and Exploitation of sympathy & respect.
