Who Are the Bluecoats? Throw it Down

Hardcore Band Boot Camp

Only a few good ones are chosen. This is the ultimate band camp for hardcore band members. There are only about 135 that are chosen, out of hundreds from all over the country. Only the strong survive. We are talking about young boys and girls that push their endurance to the test. Sweating in the summer heat is only the beginning. There is a mental endurance that must be tackled.

Somw may be thinking that this is just a walk in the park. Remember that these kids travel all over the US in just a few weeks. Not to just twittle their toes on the field and march to the same tune that they have marched to at every football game. There is a lot of blood sweat and tears mixed into the beautiful music that they have mastered in just a few weeks.

Throw It Down is a documentary that will take you on the inside of this hardcore group of band masters, back in 2006. These kids practice on a field in the middle of the summer. Although there are camps in Ohio and in Texas, this documentary is based on the Ohio camp. They practice mastering every little step in the middle of the summer heat, with huge instruments. They sleep on the gym floors in sleeping bags. The practices are about 10-12 hours a day. There are hardcore instructors that monitor every move. You have to really love band to appreciate the all around endurance that is involved.

The 2006 Bluecoats go on to win 4th place in the National Competition that is held in Wisconsin. That is the highest place that they have ever won in this competition.

There is an audition for the strongest and those that think that they can compete through to the finish. It is mentally fierce and only a handful make it. The Blue Way Interactive Educational Experience will be held June 13-14 on the campus of Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

You will able to interact with the instructors as well as many others. Visit the website for more detail. This is a hands on learning experience for brass, tenor, snare, and guard students. The Blue Way is definitely an experience of a lifetime for band and drum line lovers.
