Have you ever wondered who called your phone and did not leave a message or no one was on the other end of the line or worse it's one of those pesky annoying telemarketers that won't admit who they are or where they are located?

The information below may help you determine who or at least where the phone number originated.

Of course you will need the phone number that you wish to search out. If you have Caller-ID, it will make this task easier especially if your phone saves the received caller numbers whether you answered the phone or not. If your phone does not have the capability to show the number, this will not be a solution for you.

Try these two websites to back track the phone number to the owner.

Type in the complete phone number with area code in the "Caller ID" box on the left side of the screen and then click "Look Up." Unless the Owner of the phone number has an "unlisted number", the information as to whom and where the number is assigned will be displayed. If the owner of the number has the number as "unlisted" then only the city, state, country of the owner will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen. This "location only information" can still be of value to you if this is a number from a friend or relative, and you happen to know that they live in that area; you may then have a face and place to go with that number. If you find that it is a pesky telemarketer, you can always put the number in your phone's "block numbers" list or call the "Do Not Call" number in order to have these annoying calls stopped.

This "White Pages" site gives you the choice of a "back trace" of a phone number or email address, as well as giving you the traditional online White Pages search engine. Just as a note regarding the so called "personal information", the website tries to post regarding the owner's the phone number, it is not always accurate and is usually unreliable. For example, it lists places you've lived in the past but it is a list compiled from different public sources to include people with your name, thus reflecting that you've resided in places you may have never lived. It also often shows the name and phone numbers for persons long since deceased. However, for the purposes of tracing name to number, it is a very good site.
