Who Should Be Cast in 'The Munsters' Remake Besides Kristen Bell as Marilyn?

'The Munsters' remake possibility is currently scaring up buzz, especially with the most recent news that Kristen Bell is being considered for the role of Marilyn, the only member of 'The Munsters' clan who would be considered normal by our standards (well, actually she'd be considered quite beautiful with her Marilyn Monroe good looks). However, her frightening family simply pities her plainness. But is Kristen Bell the best choice for this role, and who could play the rest of 'The Munsters' cast? Here are a few fun options for the cast of this darker remake:

'Veronica Mars' star Kristen Bell may have gone all Hollywood lately, but I could see the blonde returning to her TV roots for a fun project like this one. However, I really hope that Marilyn's character in the remake has a bigger role; in the original, no storylines really revolved around her, with her sole purpose seeming to be to set up stories for the other characters and to remind the audience just how differently her family views the world by being so pretty but considered so plain by them. I think another fun option could be someone like Kaylee Defer, the gorgeous redheaded girl that played the daughter on 'The War at Home' (she most recently guest starred in a 'How I Met Your Mother' episode as a beautiful blonde). And if 'Gossip Girl' ends before we see 'The Munsters' remake get underway, her doppelganger Leighton Meester could also be a good option.

'The Munsters' Remake Cast Possibilities: Herman Munster

Since there's apparently a possibility that 'Hellboy' director Guillermo del Toro might be working behind the scenes here, perhaps his monstrous muse from that movie could slip into Herman's hulking shoes. But while he's a great option to play the man of the Munsters house, 'Everybody Loves Raymond' star Brad Garrett was born for the role, from his size to his eyes to his booming voice (it's just a shame that former costar and my favorite Frankenstein Peter Boyle isn't around to play Grandpa alongside him).

'The Munsters' Remake Cast Possibilities: Grandpa

This is the cast member that is easiest to come up with possibilities for, as it's easy to see anyone from Drew Carey to Jeffrey Tambor of 'Arrested Development' playing the sarcastic, scheming old coot. However, some of my favorite options include Tony Shalhoub of 'Monk' fame (he's got the right look); Michael Richards from 'Seinfeld' (it's about time he made a comeback); or, just for fun, the Eddie Munster from the original cast, Butch Patrick (unfortunately, he thinks the remake isn't a spooktacular idea).

Butch Patrick was an impressive child actor, but since he was such a wee one when he was playing Eddie, this is one of the cast members that probably needs to be an unknown (although it's a shame that Kodi Smit-McPhee of 'Let Me In' fame is a little too old for the role).

'The Munsters' Remake Cast Possibilities: Lily

To me this is actually one of the hardest roles to cast, as it's hard to imagine anyone replacing vampy vixen Yvonne De Carlo. However, I think Pauley Perrette, who plays goth gal Abby on 'NCIS', definitely has the right look and feel for the character. I could also see ageless Marcia Cross vamping it up in the role, and Eliza Dushku would make an interesting option. However, my top choice for the role also has experience with the supernatural: Lindsay Price of 'Eastwick' fame.

of course guessing the cast for 'The Munsters' remake is only half the fun; with 'Pushing Daisies' creator Bryan Fuller behind the project; it being described as 'Modern Family' meets 'True Blood'; Guillermo del Torro behind the scenes; and a first episode that would apparently have boy scout Eddie manifesting into a werewolf and chowing down on two of his fellow scouts, I can honestly say I've never looked forward to a hypothetical TV series full of horror movie monsters more.
