Who Should Use Cloud Computing?

Deborah Woehr
Cloud computing is not as far-fetched or inaccessible as the term implies. Although it is still a relatively new concept, it is gaining in popularity as people in many sectors are beginning to see the benefits of using the services. The greatest benefit is the cost, which runs from free to nominal.

Small Businesses

Out of all the groups listed in this article, small business have the most to gain by implementing cloud computing into their operations. Cloud computing saves them tens of thousands of dollars in software and IT expenses.

They can also cut out major software expenses such as Peachpit accounting because there are simple through sophisticated programs that are available on the cloud. Thanks to the cloud, small businesses can add more to their bottom line by saving the costs they would incur by investing in these expense programs and their yearly upgrades.

Project management programs such as Basecamp help them collaborate and organize their marketing, sales, and projects.

Students and Teachers

Students do not have to rely on email or portable USB drives that may crash on them. Instead, they can update their group project assignments directly online and collaborate with their colleagues in real-time.

Teachers and instructors can post assignments and lectures on the cloud for students to complete. Cloud computing offers more flexibility in the teaching curriculum because teachers have access to different kinds of media, such as video and podcasting.

Writers

Writers can communicate with their clients in real-time instead of having to rely on email. Services such as Skype make this possible. Google Docs allows them to write their documents online and present them to their clients for discussion and markup.

Cloud computing also provides ways for writers to conduct and collect their research. Evernote is a great example of that.

Freelance writers now have the option of conducting their accounting services, thanks to cloud programs like FreshBooks and Outright.com.

Average People

People can use the cloud to post pictures and videos of their family vacations, share music, collaborate together on family reunion plans, and more. icloud is an example of such a service. They can also use services such as Skype to talk to each other anywhere in the world, without the exorbitant cost of the telephone.

Conclusion

I have provided examples of how cloud computing will benefit people, no matter what their purpose is for using these services.
