You've cut your shopping down to the wire, and the presents are finally wrapped and ready to be delivered. The only problem is that they need to be delivered - a few hundred, or thousands, of miles away. To make it worse, they need to get there in a few days, or overnight. What do you do?

Here are some resources that you can consult to help make the burden of last minute shipping easier. All of the major shipping companies are listed, along with general information, phone numbers and web sites.

If you need something delivered on a Saturday, you're in luck. All of the major delivery companies will deliver on Saturday. Some will delivery on Saturday for free, others charge a fee.

FedEx (Federal Express)
Will FedEx deliver on Saturdays, and Christmas Day? Yes, with restrictions. FedEx does deliver to most major metropolitan cities on Saturday, for a fee. They can deliver to most major metropolitan cities, on Christmas Day, for a fee.

This service is contingent on the exact location that you're shipping to, so you'll need to speak with FedEx directly to see if your package can be delivered on a Saturday, or a holiday.

Again, there are restrictions, so to be certain, call FedEx and ask about the address you're shipping to. Their ability to deliver on both Saturday and Christmas Day is based upon the zip code where the package will be delivered.

The phone number for FedEx is 1-800-332-0807. If you need to have something delivered on Christmas Day, contact FedEx Express Critical at 1-800-714-8779.

US Post Office (United States Post Office)
The U.S. Post Office routinely delivers mail on Saturdays throughout the year. If you need package delivered on a Sunday, they offer Express Mail delivery, which delivers mail to most locations 365 days a year. Like other services, this is also dependent on the address that will be getting the package or letter.

You can get more information from your local Post Office, or by calling them at 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).

UPS
Does UPS deliver on Saturdays, and Christmas Day? Yes, and no. While they will deliver on Saturdays, historically, they have not delivered on Christmas Day. The people I have contacted at UPS have told me that there are no current plans to deliver on Christmas Day.

For an additional fee of at least $12.50, you can arrange a Saturday delivery to most locations in the United States. Unfortunately, they don't offer Saturday delivery to every household across the country.

To find out whether or not you can get Saturday delivery, call UPS and have the address (and zip code) handy. They'll check their records and let you know whether or not Saturday delivery is available.

The phone number for UPS customer service for packages being sent within the U.S. is 1-800-PICK-UPS (742-5877). Keep pressing "0" if you want to speak wiht a customer service representative (they refer to them as 'agents').

Although the DHL website says that they deliver 24/7, this is option is only available to a businesses that has already established a working relationship with DHL. So, using DHL for an individual to do a last-minute delivery is pretty much out of the question.

Their phone number is 1-800-CALL-DHL (1-800-225-5345).

I remember getting a package once on Christmas Day. At the time, I couldn't believe that anyone would force workers to work then.
