Who is Endorsing Obama-Biden and McCain-Palin?

B.Holmes
As the countdown to election day shortens, some undecided voters continue to measure the McCain-Palin ticket against Obama-Biden. The presidential and vice presidential debates are one way to get insight into the candidates, and another is to see who is publicly endorsing either party's ticket.

A group of fundamental ministers are claiming to move forward to endorse the McCain-Palin ticket, which could jeopardize their churches' non-profit tax status. They aren't the first from the religious right to make an attempt to endorse McCain. Both Reverend Rod Parsley and Pastor John Hagee gave their endorsements to McCain, which the GOP contender was later forced to reject due to the controversial content of the men's sermons.

Other public endorsements of John McCain include Francis J. Beckwith, James Dobson, Log Cabin Republicans, New York Independence Party, Donald Trump, and Rhode Island Right to Life.

There are veteran groups supporting both the Democratic and Republican tickets, as well as police groups. The National Association of Police Organizations has given its endorsement to Obama, while the Fraternal Order of Police is supporting McCain.

One of Obama's most famous supporter is Oprah Winfrey, who some credit for Obama's win over Hillary Clinton. While Winfrey has kept low key since Obama made it on the Democratic ticket, Obama has picked up some notable endorsements since McCain's VP choice of Sarah Palin. The National Organization of Women gave its endorsement to Obama-Biden, as did the Business and Professional Women/USA, the National Association of Social Workers, the National Congress of Black Women and the Women's Information Network.

Sarah Palin as the McCain's VP choice may have spurred other Obama-Biden endorsements, which came from animal rights group such as the Humane Society Legislative Fund and the Defenders of Wildlife. Palin is infamous in her support of aerial hunting of wolves and her attempt to sue the Federal Government over its action to place polar bears on the endangered species list.

Obama also received endorsements from 61 Nobel Laureates, from the scientific community. Endorsements also came from 200 former dilopmats. Both the American Federation of Teachers and National Education Association have endorsed the Obama-Biden ticket.

Republican congressman Wayne T. Gilchrest came out in support of Obama. Gilchrest stated that his reason for crossing party lines in this year's presidential election, was that he felt the Democratic ticket contained candidates that best met his criteria, which included: competence, experience, integrity, prudence and knowledge.

Another surprising endorsement for Obama came from conservative Washington Post analylist George Will. One might argue that it was more a slam on McCain rather than a heart felt endorsement for Obama.

As congress wrestles with the current financial crisis, and the debates unfold, there may be more endorsements on the horizon.

It boils down to whether one is liberal or conservative. I am a conservative and I get tired of being called idiot, etc. by liberals. Can't we have different points of view without the name calling? I disagree with the liberal agenda but I try not to resort to name calling which helps nothing. Not saying you are doing that, but there are different points of view. So the people who endorse the liberal agenda are going to endore Obama and vice versa. The president of Los Angeles NOW endorsed McCain-Palin and has been ridiculed. Why can't she come outside the box of NOW without being ridiculed? I have conservative friends supporting Obama and we are still good friends. I am so sick of this election. I hate the "If you don't agree with my candidate you are an idiot." This is a sad day in America - home of the free (speech).
