Who is God?

Leigh S.
When one is tasked with the notion of God, a lot of questions come to mind. How can something exist that is at once invisible, yet all-powerful? Why would God, who wants to be acknowledged not reveal himself? It is my personal belief that right now God is less like an actual being and more of an entity, or pure energy.

With the help of science and what we understand about life, and its inner workings, it is possible to offer a viable alternative to the idea of a God in the heavens. This theory comes from the Law of Conservation of Energy; which states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can change its form. It is also important to note that the total quantity of matter and energy available in the Universe is a fixed amount and never any more or less. Given the previous statements, could this force, which drives and maintains all life, be the elusive "God?"

Energy flows throughout our entire Universe. We don't quite understand every part of it yet, however we do know that it is the life force that lets us thrive here on earth. When we are breathing we convert the oxygen into a useable form of energy in our bloodstream. Turning potential energy into kinetic energy. Even the earth itself with its thermal core contains energy; this energy creates earthquakes and volcanoes. It is my belief that all this energy is interconnected in some way not entirely apparent to us yet.

From what we do know though the same amount of energy flowing today is equal to the amount of energy that has always existed. If at some point nothing existed, then now there would be nothing, so for anything to exist there always had to be something: energy. You cannot have absolute nothing, if there was never anything, then there could never be something. You must start with something, in order to have anything. This something, becomes necessary, because without it, there would never be anything.

Using the Law of Conservation of Energy, we could speculate that, since you cannot create or destroy energy or matter, that energy is the unmoved mover. Energy in its potential state, is motion that is not moved, once the potential energy moves, you have the beginning of the Universe. By initiating the beginning of the expansion of the Universe, energy becomes the unmoved mover.

Using the Law of Conservation of Energy, we know that you cannot create or destroy, matter or energy, therefore, it could not have been caused, we know it exists, therefore it must be uncaused.

If God were an invisible, intangible, ever changing entity, then energy could be God. You can't see energy except in it's changing forms, the burning of a log, turning potential energy to thermal, or the flash of a camera, turning stored energy into light energy. You can't touch energy except to be burnt or to be nourished, bordering the line of tangibility. You cannot destroy energy or create it, however we can change it and manipulate it, changing our perceptions of it.

I feel our modern perceptions are changing as we gain more knowledge and insight into the underlying mechanics of this Universe, as well as our place in it. In the grand scheme individually we are each insignificant; however as a whole our interconnected energies create that which is significant. Is this God?

As human-kind searches deeper into the make-up of the Universe, it is inevitable that we will unearth yet more evidence to further enhance our perception of God. It is difficult to think that we will ever come to a full realization of what our purpose is here on earth, or how we ever got here in the first place. Using the knowledge we do gain however will help us to break down some of the barriers, even if just by eliminating the ideas of the past.

I have thought this exact same thing for years! Nice to see the ideas written in such a well organized and logical arguement.

This is very intersting and good insight and makes me think deeply on the subject of Who Is God? I think God is a spirit & since spirit is apparently invisible, He is not viewable, but He can be known by humans & that what you are seeking to know is a very commendable and good think my friend (John 17:3). Very good article.
