Who Has the Best ECPM or CPM?

The Portland Journal
There is a very good question being branded around the Internet by Website Publishers, that question is "what is the best eCPM or CPM advert provider?"

There are a lot of factors at play when a Website Publisher who is wanting to monetize a particular site wants to get the highest possible revenue from their content or product.

Some of those factors are:

Niche Content

Content Originality

Product Niche

Website Traffic

Traffic Quality

Unique Website Visitors

Page Hits

Targeted Audience

Advert Placement

Advert Shape, Color and Type

Ad Network such as Google Adsense or DotClix

SEO

Website Optimization

Website Promotion

Privacy Policies

Many Website Publishers start their sites thinking that they can begin to cash in on their Internet business straight away. If any Website Publisher thinks this or has been told this in advice would have to take a step back, vast revenues are not going to happen overnight.

As you can see from the list above there is a lot to consider before your dreams of becoming an Internet millionaire can come into fruition, and that is not even a full list there is so much more that comes into play.

It is no good joining Google Adsense for instance, placing their ads on your website and hoping that you will get advert clicks and high CPM (basically earning per thousand impressions) right away. It is equally no good if you go straight to the Adsense help forums crying Google Adsense is a scam!

For many Website Publishers it is simply a of trial and error and being patient, promoting high quality content and having great traffic figures from search engine traffic. But if you are not one of the patient ones what can you do?

Unfortunately if you are not going to put the time and effort into your Website, then you have already lost the battle. You need to spend a lot of time gaining knowledge and making sure you have original, high quality content.

Advertisers and Partners of programs such as Google Adsense will visit your Website at some point, and so will Google and the eventual visitors. There is a marked difference between a quality website and a poor one. You need to look at the design of your pages, making sure you have repeat traffic and constant unique visitors. You will need to make sure your regular traffic does not get what is known as advert blindness, this could involve changing your ad styles or placements - again this is trial and error.

Too many adverts on your pages can affect CPM and clicks, Google have procedures and forensics in place that can read what your website adverts are doing, how many there are and the quality of your traffic. So like any good telepath you are going to need to be able to read the minds of people that are not in front of you. Basically get with the program and think out of the box, what do your visitor want from your Website, and how can you make your Website an advertisers dream?

Being in a niche market and having original content that is searchable and useful is going to be a good place to start, but even if you are not in a niche you can still make your Website targetable and advertiser friendly just by having great information regarding your product, a good SEO technique and originality.

If you have pop-up's and an unfriendly user experience, then your CPM will suffer, as you simply will not be getting quality traffic. Making sure your visitors stay within your Website is another great way to up your CPM rates. But remember, you will also need to be generating advert clicks in many cases to keep your CPM at a reasonable level to be making extra income on your Website.

Going into Website Publishing and monetizing blindly is more than often a waste of time. Google Adsense Forums for example are a treasure trove of advice, the information there can help you decipher what pitfalls to avoid and who is successful.

Take a look at those success stories, take a look at successful Websites and how they place adverts. Take a look at quality Websites with thousands or millions of visitors as they can give you a great idea of how to make extra revenue from advertizing.

There are also factors that govern the way you are paid CPM, and these lie solely with the Ad Networks, the goal post are always changing in an ever competitive advertising market. These factors are not always transparent, so keeping track of how your adverts are performing can always keep you ahead of the game. If you see a problem, make an effort to change an ad placement for instance. Don't go running around the Web screaming scam. Quite often adverts, cost per click and CPM are governed by marketing calendars such as time of year, how much an advertiser is paying for adverts from the ad networks.

If you still cannot get by with your current CPM, then try utilizing some of your site space to offer advertisers directly an advertisement opportunity with banners on your pages. You will however need to be able to prove good traffic and it is always better to approach companies within a similar market as yours.

Gain as much knowledge as possible, follow terms and conditions to the book, ask for advice and even try different Ad Networks to gauge who can benefit you the most.

If I could offer you the answers right away I would do that, but simply your efforts, traffic, niche, Website quality and traffic are going to govern your earnings. Nobody is going to be able to provide you the answers, many will never give away their secrets. Take a look around the Internet, look deeper than just a page on a site and you will quickly start to see where you might go right.

Lastly be very aware that automated traffic sources are classed as poor quality traffic, be aware that this is also against the terms and conditions of many Ad Networks and you may lose your account.

With all this in mind you can see that getting the best CPM is not as easy as you might thing, but don't be disheartened, many of you will see an element of success.

You can always try making different Websites for different niches, and figure out your own pros and cons through analysis using tools such as Google Analytics to garner information on what is performing and what is not.

There I gave you a small run down, it is up to you how you use this information, and remember there is so much more to learn - it is time to get clued up, good luck with your venture.
