Who Has Better Manners: Americans or British?

I love both the Americans and British. They are all very nice people. And as an easterner living far away from the other side of the globe, I must admit I do not know the culture and history of both countries very well. My opinion would thus be quite general from my own personal experiences with both the Americans and British.

To start with, British would greet each other with "Hello". A greeting that sounds like "Hallow" (your honor) or "Halo" (Glory). Both are every good words and pleasant to the ears. When British say Hello, they would normally follow with "how are you?" "How are you?" sounds personal and warm. That makes British greeting a double pleasant.

When British say Hello, they are normally has a sincere manner. I like the way British take off their hats or touch the hats lightly when saying "Hello" and "how are you?" That looks neat, polite and good manner.

The American says "Hi". "Hi" has a connotation of 'Hey". "Hey" is good to call a stranger or yelling at a dog. "Hey" follows with "you" sounds very rude to me. "Hi" is the longest word normally an American would greet you. Most likely they will not even look. You do not get much of a warm feeling with 'Hi" in comparison to "Hello, how are you?"

British present a better manner with their daily attires. A British would put on a coat and tie when they go to the church. I see the American wearing Jeans and T-shirts. British put on a more respectful wears when they go to work while the American cloth casually.

You would probably see a taxi driver open the door for you in London. But you may also hear a four letter word from a taxi driver in New York if you do not give a 10 % tip on your pay.

When I think of British, I think of the majority Caucasians and a few minority ethnics. The ethnics are quite conformed to the culture and manner of the British. When I think of American, I think of a multi mixed racial society. You may run into a bad ethnic manner and that is considered an American manner.

In fact, you may run into all sorts of manner with all kinds of American from the Black, Yellow, Brown and White. And because you are not familiar with the manners, you would have a bad feeling for them. And these manners are all considered American manners. And so American are more vulnerable to be branded ill manners even though the manners are not by themselves bad. It could mean only we are not used to the kind of manners.

But all in all, when we talk about manner, I would say I have a better impression for the British than the American.
