Who is the Lady of the Dunes?

Mystery of Murdered Woman Still Plagues Cape Cod

Terry Sutton
Every town, every county has it's own mysteries and legends. For the people of Cape Cod and in particular Provincetown, Massachusetts; they have one that is bizarre, sickening and elusive.

It started July 26th, 1974 when a thirteen-year-old girl was walking her dog in the dunes near Provincetown on the northern part of Cape Cod. She made a shocking discovery of a woman brutally murdered. Since that day the mystery of who she is and who killed her continue to challenge local law enforcement. She has no known name, but she is commonly referred to as "The Lady in the Dunes".

It was estimated that the victim had been dead for at least two weeks. Her nude body had been found lying on a beach towel, her head resting on some folded jeans. Her head was nearly severed and the left side of her skull was crushed. Law Enforcement was never able to fingerprint the woman because both of her hands had been cut off and never found.

There were some clues that were left behind. The woman had gold crowns on her teeth valued at over 5,000 dollars. Her dental work was done by what was described as the "New York Style" of dentistry. At the time of her death, she was estimated to be around 145 pounds and 5 feet, six inches tall. She had long auburn or reddish hair that was tied in a ponytail with an elastic barrette. Her toenails were painted pink and her age was estimated to be between 25 and 40.

Over the years, some interesting theories have come and gone as to who this mystery woman was. For years, local law enforcement thought that she was, Rory Gene Kesinger a known bank robber on the run. In 2002, a DNA test results ruled that out. A convicted killer, Hadden Clark admitted to murdering the woman while he was living out on Cape Cod. Despite his two murder convictions, Law Enforcement discounts his claims because of many other alleged murder confessions that did not pan out.

Her case has even garnered national attention, as was part of an article in the November 4, 2005 edition of People's Magazine. Still with all the local press over the years, the identity of "The Lady in the Dunes" seems as elusive as ever.

ever think of bringing in psychics? I mean someone with a good reputation! Some believe, some don't, but I'd think it would be worth a try!! Can't make anything worse! there r some psychic, mediums out there that are very popular, not to mention have been pretty helpful and ACCURATE as well!! I'd think this is something that could only HELP!! I've been to at least 2 psychics and I am a total believer. U have to try it, experience it for yourself, and If you choose the right one, I bet you'd end up a believer too, regardless of how skeptical you are!! find the right psychic/medium, give it a try. What's there to loose?

the murderer is still alive and the ground where she was found is haunted and they could have checked her footprints if they were smart enough but hey in 1974 they probably didnt have enough technology back then so who knows
